My story

My name is Snitzel and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m a big boy at 48 lbs and I’m 9 y.o. I'm handsome too, in case you didn't notice. I may have been around the block a time or two, but my best years are in front of me. I came to my foster home here in Machesney Park, IL, from a shelter that was no fun at all! I like it here much better. There’s a 3-year-old kid here who is my best bud. He knows not to get in my face or push me around and I just love to hang out with him and watch over him. The 13-year-old kid is okay too. There are other dogs here and they are fine, as long as they don’t get any ideas about checking out my food or water bowls! Foster dad feeds us separately so there aren’t any squabbles. I’m a good boy. I walk nicely on leash and I am totally house trained. I’m fine being home unsupervised – I never cause trouble. Just give me a comfy spot to snooze and I’m good! I take treats very gently and I’m a healthy boy. I’m neutered and vaccinated. When I first came to SIRA I had a lump on my leg, but SIRA got that removed. My perfect forever home will be laid-back and easy going, with humans who understand how to treat a Shiba gentleman like me. I’m very mellow, but that doesn't mean I’m a pushover. I’ve been through a lot of change recently and because of that I like things to be on my terms. I don’t like being pushed around and will get mouthy if when manhandled. I enjoy affection and petting, but when I’m ready for it. My perfect forever home will be mellow and laid-back, like me. My foster home thinks I’d adapt well in pretty much any home environment as long as my humans are patient with me and take the time to get to know my style. I’d be fine as an “only dog” but if you do have other pets or kids, they should be friendly and respectful. If you live in the Midwest and want to share your life with a mellow, well-behaved older gentleman like me, then visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt for more information and to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA get to know you and your home environment so they can make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster dad so we can meet!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Snitzel, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
