Meet Sandy! This sweet senior was adopted from ACCT as a puppy way back in 2018, but sadly found her way back to the shelter as an underweight and dehydrated stray. While her owners were contacted, they stated that they were no longer interested in her and didn't want her back. Now in her golden years, 8-year-old Sandy would love to find a real loving home who won't leave her behind, and will give her the home she deserves. Sandy has had a great time in her doggy playgroups here at the shelter, and while she can be a bit shy when meeting new dogs, she loves a nice gentle romp with dogs who match her dainty-older-lady play style. Be sure to check out videos of her in action below! Sandy would be well suited for a low-key household where she can get a few walks and some playtime but will still have a place to crash for her multiple daily naps. She is open to meeting your dogs at the shelter prior to adoption to make sure they can become BFFs! Sandy's full notes are below - please consider giving this lovely golden girl a chance at a fur-ever home. Even though she’d already been out for playgroup she was raring to go. Sandy LOVES to run. She’d make a great running buddy. She got so happy when I started running with her. I took Sandy into the volunteer office to meet a group of college kids that are volunteering at the shelter. The students were putting together enrichment treats so Sandy was in heaven. She greeted everyone in the office (7 people) and got to sample lots of snacks. Foster staff came to grab Sandy for a day trip, and she was reluctant to leave the table of deliciousness but did come when called because she’s such a good girl. per volunteer 4/20: -Sandy is a very friendly and affectionate sweet girl. She has such a pleasant, polite and gentle personality. -She does pull on the leash but it's manageable. -We were going to do some play time in the yard but she wanted to snuggle and get pets instead so she layed on the bench with me and i gave her belly rubs until she fell asleep. -She seems like she is totally game for a walk but the can easily slide right into couch potato mode! -I would say her hobbies would include sun bathing and belly rubs :) per volunteer 4/13: Sandy is very easy to walk on leash. She took treats gently when it was one she liked. She allowed me to pet her. She did great for her photo shoot, waltzing right in not minding a camera at her face level taking video of her entering. See her photos and videos! Per staff 4/12: "Kennel presentation - Sandy was at the front with her paws on the kennel door and a wagging tail with soft red eyes. Once I opened the kennel door she was eager to leave, trying to push her little head out. She allowed easy leashing and came right out for some pets. Leash skills - Pulls minimally. Handling - In the room, Sandy sniffed around curiously and came right up on the desk for some treats. She knew how to sit and took them very gently. She is a super wiggly girl and couldn't stop her tail from moving. This girl has lots of love to give in her small package. She comes when called but is not the most comfortable with her limbs being held, although she was very tolerant as I touched her all over. She prefers body and head pets. Play - No interest. Toys - No interest." Per staff 4/12: "Playgroup - Steerable with spray bottle and shake can. Crouched posture, tucked tail during gate greetings. In yard, initially avoidant, but increasingly curious, reciprocated greetings, greeted incoming dogs, and engaged in gentle/dainty and push/pull play. Tolerant of Ellie's rowdy attempts to solicit play (boxing with front paws) with ears back and correcting appropriately with bared teeth occasionally. Opened up over time, enjoying push/pull with Ellie." MEDICAL INFORMATION Sandy's 4/12 intake exam noted that she weighs just 30 pounds, with a body condition score of 3/9. She was found to be dehydrated, and will be continually monitored for her health. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week.
