My story

Koopa is 8 months old and came to us at 3 weeks old from a hoarding situation, he was a decently healthy kitten besides having ringworm. The first night after him and his siblings were let out of ringworm quarantine, he played too hard and injured his spine. We don't know exactly what happened but it's suspected he fell off a cat tree during a round of 3 am zoomies. He immediately went to the vet that morning and was put on kennel rest and steroids for the pain but nothing was broken or fractured. Eventually his pain subsided but he had lost a lot of muscle from not using his back legs and he wasn't able to walk on them at all, he just scooted around. We started physical therapy and exercises to build strength and put him on a high protein food. One leg improved a lot and he was able to use it but his other leg couldn't keep up so his vet recommended a hock brace and that made a huge difference. He started walking again and eventually didn't need the brace anymore and continued building muscle on his own. He made a lot of improvement and was about to be listed for adoption when he did something again to re-injure himself. He's recovered much quicker this time and he's not 100% yet but he walks okay with a wobble, he can run with a bunny hop, and he's able to do everything a normal cat can do. We don't know if he will ever be completely normal with his walk but he's doing great as he is now and has no problems that require special care .He's shy at first with new people but he's a cuddle bug once he's comfortable. He loves other cats and would do great in a home with friendly kitties. He's never been around dogs or small children but he would probably do best in a quiet home. We highly recommend he doesn't have access to a cat tree, he likes beds and scratching posts but he can't be trusted with heights. He's very affectionate and would just be happy to be loved on all the time, he's best friend material and a great Netflix watching buddy. Koopa is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccines and preventatives. Send us an email at lonestarkittens@gmail.com or fill out a application with any questions or to set up a time to come meet him! You can also look us up on Facebook to see some of his previous posts and more photos and videos

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Koopa Troopa, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
