My story

Meet Rooster, a handsome 6-year-old brindle pit bull mix with a heart of gold! Rooster is a total sweetheart who loves pets, enjoys shredding toys in his free time (he just misses the joy of playing in snow), and gets extra excited when food and treats are involved! He's great with crate training and settles down pretty quickly when left alone, especially with a sound machine on to help him feel comfy. Rooster would do wonderfully with a dog buddy, as he seems to really enjoy the company of other pups. He’s got some basic training down, like sitting and waiting for meals, and although he can pull a bit on walks, a harness does the trick. Rooster is the perfect mix of loving and playful, and he’s sure to bring tons of joy to his forever family! When I arrived at Anderson Animal Shelter from our partner shelter in Oklahoma, I tested positive for Heartworm. But don’t worry – the staff here knows that the best place for Heartworm-positive dogs like me to heal is in a loving, forever home just like yours! If you choose to adopt me, the wonderful clinic staff will be by your side every step of the way, answering questions and offering all the support you need during my treatment. The process usually takes around three months, with some simple at-home care to help me stay safe and comfortable while I recover. After my final treatment, there will be a follow-up test about six months later. The good news is that Heartworm treatment is highly successful, and the staff is confident that I’ll make a full recovery. Yay! And just so you know, Heartworm can only be passed from animal to animal by mosquitoes – so no worries about me spreading it! I’m ready for my fresh start with you! Stop in and meet Rooster in person during our adoption hours. For more information, email bloomingdale@ahconnects.org or call us at 847-697-2880 x: 90, and the staff will be happy to help you. Our dogs and puppies go home spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (6 months and over), and up to date on core vaccines, heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Their adoption also includes a free-vet exam at one of our participating veterinarians.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Rooster, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
