My story

Meet LeoSurrendered by his owner due to housing challenges. At 111 lbs, Leo is a big-hearted softie who has found himself in the unfamiliar world of shelter life. This 6-year-old large mixed breed dog was surrendered after his previous owners moved into no-pet apartments. Despite being described as "very friendly and outgoing" in his former home, Leo is still adjusting to the shelter environment and needs a calm, patient adopter who will help him rebuild confidence at his own pace.🏡 My Ideal HomeLeo will thrive in an adult-only home that provides consistency, quiet spaces, and lots of love. He's looking for someone who understands that big dogs can have big feelings-and that trust takes time. Leo's best match is someone with a gentle approach and a willingness to let him come out of his shell slowly. A private yard or quiet walking route would be ideal.👶 Good with Kids?Leo should not live with children under 13. While he was described as friendly with kids in his previous home, he has shown signs of discomfort during handling and is best suited to a home without young children during this time of transition.🐕 Good with Other Dogs?Yes, with the right match. Leo previously lived with another dog and has shown friendly interest in some dogs at the shelter-though he can be unsure with unfamiliar ones. He'd benefit from calm, respectful introductions and should meet any potential canine siblings beforehand.🐈 Good with Cats?Yes. Leo previously lived with a cat and was described as friendly and outgoing.🦮 Leash MannersLeo walks nicely on a leash, though he can show nervous body language when being leashed or collared. He'll need someone who can go slow, use positive reinforcement, and avoid overwhelming him.🩺 Overall HealthLeo is neutered and has no known medical conditions. He's a healthy dog but a bit overweight (111 lbs), so his new family should work with their vet to help him get to a healthy size.🧠 Behavior Determination: Level 4Leo shows signs of handling/touch sensitivity and can be fearful when stressed. In the shelter, he has displayed body language like lip curls and whale eye when being leashed, so he'll need someone who is experienced with dog body language and committed to building trust at his pace. A professional trainer using only reward-based, fear-free methods is strongly recommended.🎉 One Fun FactLeo may be reserved at first, but once he feels safe, he'll offer a perfect "sit" and "paw" for treats-and he's been known to gently rest his giant head in your lap, asking for affection on his terms.💸 Adoption Fee: $75Leo is a gentle giant with a lot of love to give. If you're patient, kind, and ready to help him rediscover the joy of companionship, he just might be your perfect match. Let's help Leo find the safe, loving home he deserves. Primary Color: Gold Weight: 111 Age: 6yrs 1mths 2wks

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Leo, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
