Name:    Peaches        Best Guess for Breed:    Shepherd / Retriever Mix    Best Guess for Age:    1 year as of April 2025        Gender:    female Approximate Weight:    42 lbs  Gets Along With:    Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living At: South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here. Special Adoption Considerations: Peaches is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! She's eager to make friends, and would love the opportunity to meet lots of new four legged pals at the park or in the yard. Peaches would love to give her humans lots of hugs and snuggles, too!Most of all, though, she wants to know she's safe and loved. In exchange, she promises all the adoring gazes and happy tail wags she's storing up, and loyal companionship for all her days. What do you say?
