Come meet King and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (07/06) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Alexandria, (3351 Richmond Highway Alexandria, VA 22305)! Name: King       Best Guess for Breed:    Shepherd/Rottweiler mix Best Guess for Age:  1.5 years as of February 2025     Gender: Male Approximate Weight:  76 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! King has met some kids on walks and has well with them. He hasn't lived with kids or cats that we know of but we can discuss integration techniques if needed.  Currently Living At: DC area foster home King is Looking For: His forever home! Through no fault of his own, this sweetie landed in the shelter. He's eager to once again have his own humans for long sniffy walks, romps in parks, and all the adventures they can dream up - gotta burn off all that awesome young-dog energy! He'd love to make pup and people pals along the way. Quality kibble, cushy dog bed, chew dog toys - yes, please, to all those. But above all he wants to be safe and loved, to know where he belongs - and upon whom to bestow all those happy tail wags, to whom to pledge loyal companionship. Is that going to be you? Is he the one you see by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: King is a great dog and a giant goofball. He loves to play with his friends at the dog park and daycare, and greets everyone at the park like he's been their best friend for years. In the house, King truly loves to lounge and cuddle. He lives with my bossy 3-year-old female dog and has learned she runs the show. King has been great with learning her boundaries and backs off when she is done playing. He has not had one accident in the house and goes into his crate with ease. His biggest flaw (if you want to call it that) is that he LOVES to give hugs when he is excited which can be intimidating for some people. He is a huge baby and just wants to smother you with his affection. King is super smart too - knows sit, down, shake, crate, and walk. I'll truly miss this guy when he is adopted, but he is going to make someone so happy for years to come!  Medical: King is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. King has completed the treatment and exercise restriction phase, and is now awaiting his six month follow-up test.  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption.
