Zélie is a joyful and sensitive soul. Because she is a highly social dog with a strong tendency to form deep attachments, she would thrive in a household where someone is home most of the time or able to take her along. Right now, she is able to comfortably handle about 5 hours of alone time a day. If you work full-time outside the home or are frequently away, she’s probably not the right fit. As she gets older, she will likely become able to handle longer periods of alone time, but she is very much a companion dog by nature. Get ready to make new friends every time you take her for a walk—she loves everyone she meets! She gets along beautifully with adults, kids, cats, and other dogs, as long as they’re gentle with her. You can even walk her past a fence full of barking dogs, and she’ll remain calm and non-reactive. Zélie has a solid month of consistent potty training and leash training under her belt, and has been learning other basic words and commands. She’s at a stage now where she’s able to use the bathroom outside 95% of the time, but still uses the pee pads occasionally. She will still have occasional accidents inside without close supervision, and needs to be taken outside regularly. She is well accustomed to the "go potty" command. She is no doubt well on her way to being reliably house trained. She LOVES going to doggy day care. Everyone there raves about how awesome, sweet and well-behaved she is. She sleeps quietly in her crate throughout the night but would be totally thrilled to sleep next to you! She’s eager to please and highly responsive to gentle guidance—harsh correction will only shut her down. Given her sensitive, highly attached nature, there will be an adjustment period for her as she gets used to a new home. Born on December 24th, she is nearly 4 and half months old and weighs about 8 pounds. She came from Texas with her two sisters, who both got adopted. Her foster mom snatched her up right away (foster fail!) but ended up not being able to keep her because she was still dealing with the fresh grief over losing her previous dog. Zélie’s favorite activities: Sitting in your lap, being in whatever room you’re in, going for a couple walks every day, playing fetch with her toys, and hiding bones in sneaky places where you can’t find them.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Zelie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
