My story

I am at Oakland Animal Services in kennel Dog I:3Zuri is a 7-month-old German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix with the soul of a sweetheart and the springs of a superhero. Weighing in at 44 lbs, this clever pup has already mastered the art of fence jumping—so no unsupervised yard time for this girl! What she really wants is to be with her people or other dog friends, not alone outside. While Zuri may be a little overwhelmed at first, she responds beautifully to calm, patient handling and is quick to warm up with gentle encouragement and snacks. She walks politely on leash, checks in with her handler often, and soaks up affection like a sponge. In playgroups, she’s calm and respectful, showing gentle interest in other dogs and a clear preference for hanging with canine buddies over being solo. Zuri is sensitive and thrives in a home with another social dog who can show her the ropes and help her build confidence. She’s food-motivated, people-focused, and eager to connect—an ideal candidate for positive reinforcement training and someone who can channel her energy and smarts into fun, structured activities.
