My story

Meet Rusty, a loving 2-year-old neutered male hound mix who's overcome incredible challenges to find joy and hope. Weighing around 50 pounds, Rusty is a friendly pup who gets along with dogs, kids, and people. His story is one of resilience and gratitude. Rusty has come a long way since his arrival, having been severely underweight, but now he's thriving with a full bowl of food, a warm bed, and gentle care. He has blossomed in his foster home, learning to play, cuddle, and trust. Rusty adores his foster siblings and loves snuggling on the couch - his favorite pastime! From the man himself: "I had a pretty sad life in TN, I spent most of my life outside in a small cage with my brother. I didn’t get to eat much or have a soft warm bed to lay in. I would spend my days staring through the fence dreaming of running in the grass. I swear some days if I closed my eyes, I could feel the grass on my paws. Other days it was hard. Laying in the hot gravelly dirt, chewing on a rock to keep that pain you get deep in your stomach quiet when it’s been empty for so long.  Then one day, guys you will not even believe this, one day an ACTUAL real life from the heavens above ANGEL came and rescued ME, can you believe that?! How lucky am I?! I went to this magical place where there were other dogs just like me! We could play all day, there was always a full bowl, warm bed, and gentle hands to give me the best pets.  I couldn’t stay long, lots of other dogs in TN needed help. So after I got to eating regularly and feeling better, I hopped on a bus and headed north. I couldn’t wait, was it possible ANOTHER magical place existed like the one I had just left?!  Welp it does! Can you believe my luck? I’ve been here about a month and I LOVE it! I have 6 foster siblings, which is great because I love to play and cuddle with them. I've been learning so much, did you know that if you just put your bum on the floor when you hear "sit" you get a snack?!?! If that’s not heaven, I don’t know what is!  I’m the best at hunting flies, chipmunks, birds, gnats…I mean I could go on and on. My foster mom says some people take dogs with them hunting for sport, I bet I’d be real good at that! I get along with all my foster siblings, I really like having a friend around all the time! There’s one guy here that’s kind of a jerk though. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen one this close in real life, foster mom says it’s a "cat", I say it’s a "mean" so we stay in different parts of the house. I love all people I meet, I’m a little clumsy and may accidentally knock over the smaller people but I love them too. Snuggling up on the couch with them is one of my favorite things to do!  My BFF here, Robert tells me one day I will have my very own people! That’s what I dream of when I lay in the grass now. Rust easy, your dream dog has arrived!" -Rusty Rusty is medically up to date, housebroken, and crate trained. He's ready to find his forever family and bring joy, love, and snuggles to their lives. Apply today to meet this sweet boy and give him the happily ever after he deserves! Click HERE for Adoption Application: pawsrescueleague.org/adopt Adoption fees vary based on the dog and are not negotiable. As a small rescue that does not receive government funding or grants, we rely on adoption fees to stay afloat. Adoption fees help cover the following: vaccinations, wellness exams, heartworm/4DX testing, parasite prevention, spay/neuter (age-appropriate), microchipping, transport expenses, and other rescue-related overhead/administrative costs. Paws Rescue League, Inc is an all-inclusive rescue that does NOT only rescue puppies and young, healthy dogs.  We make a point to also rescue seniors, dogs with special needs, moms, and other “less desirable” dogs, knowing that we will likely incur higher veterinary expenses and that these dogs may take longer to get adopted.  As such, an individual adoption fee is not only reimbursing PRL for expenses directly related to that dog, but it is also helping us to continue our mission of taking in dogs that would otherwise be too much of a financial burden to save. We believe that ALL dogs deserve a second chance. Thank you for your support and understanding! ##2352947##

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Rusty, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
