My story

Monte in a handsome, energetic, neutered pit bull mix. He is about 3 yrs old and about 89 lbs of pure energy and love. Monte has had tplo surgery on his right hind leg in September and has finally been cleared for adoption. Monte was found as a stray in Dec 2023. Around July 2024 while at the shelter waiting to be adopted staff noticed Monte limping and got him checked out. They found out he needed tplo surgery on possibly both back legs they jumped into action reaching out to rescue groups to get Monte the surgery he needed. Once at Lucky Dog he had surgery in September on his right hind and after a few months Monte was feeling back to 100% and is no longer limping and no longer needing pain medications. He still has a partially torn cruciate on his left hind leg but his veterinarian is not recommending surgery until Monte is showing signs of pain in that leg. Monte is now eager to find his forever home! Now that he’s pain free he loves to run zoomies in the yard and relaxing with a good chew bone. He does well with other dogs his size but can play rough so would recommend future housemates not less than 40lbs. He knows basic commands like sit, stay, lay down, go to your crate, and to wait for his food until released. He also knows when you have French fries as those are his favorite human treat. Monte does well in his crate and will let out a yip when he wants to go outside. He is very excited on a leash but once the excitement wears off he does well but still pulls. Monte is a big jumper and we have been working on it but if he thinks he can get away with it he’ll do it for this reason I am recommending no children under the age of 10 as he may not be able to contain himself and may knock small children down he just doesn’t realize his size. Monte has done well when he sees my cats from his crate or while on leash but he does seem a little too interested and my cats are scared of him for this reason I would recommend a cat free home. [Mr Tinkles my older cat usually will come up to fosters he feels are safe but he won’t with Monte so I trust Mr Tinkles assessment and haven’t pushed it further 🤣] Monte loves to be cuddled and just thinks he’s a small lap dog he just doesn’t realize he's so large. When it comes to toys Monte is definitely a super chewer if you will and needs to be supervised with softer toys as he enjoys shredding them. Monte does amazing meeting new people outside of the house he is a ham and always a big hit with everyone at the vet. When people come visit my home he is cautious at first but once introduced by me or my husband he relaxes I feel this will be the same once he feels comfortable with his new owners and home. If you are interested in Monte, please complete our application on 1luckydogrescue.org or email olveiry@yahoo.com along with some information about the yourself.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Monte, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
