What my friends at ACC say about me:I have been known to shower my favorite people in love!I am a cat that is in need of a lap! I can't wait to be your new lap cat.I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am.I am looking for a home with a patient person.I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace.I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you.I would do best in a home without very tiny humans, although I could be open to older human children once I meet them.Sour Neon Skittles has improved nicely since her last assessment and is an active, engaged, and curious cat. She emerged from her cubby at the sound of treats and eagerly approached to eat them. She allowed petting on her cheeks, head, and along her back while holding her tail high, though her primary focus remained on the treats rather than the interaction. When offered more treats, she quickly returned for additional petting. She tolerated being picked up, though she struggled slightly. She especially enjoys squeeze-up treats. While her tail showed mild piloerection at the base-a possible sign of arousal-she did not become overstimulated. Overall, she might be described as slightly aroused but manageable cat and receptive to interaction.Sour Neon Skittles interacts with the observer, solicits & appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. No known history of behavioral problems. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience or demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior. A volunteer writes: Up until recently, Sour Neon Skittles was loving her life in her family home--meowing to her humans, playing with water, and enjoying games of hide and seek. But her people were evicted, and now she's bunking at the Manhattan Care Center. It's a tough adjustment for any cat. Yet Sour Neon Skittles is coming around, allowing staffers to treat her to cheek rubs and yummy snacks while showing some shyness and hesitancy. This elegant lady would do well with new pet parents who give her time to warm up to her new surroundings so her comfort and confidence can shine.
