My story

With his gentle heart and striking light brown eyes, Ferris is everything you could want in a companion — and it’s hard to believe he’s still searching for a forever home. His story began in the spring of 2021, when his mama and her sister were abandoned on the side of a highway and good people shepherded them to Animal Humane, where both gave birth to puppies just weeks later. Ferris has remained an incredible companion. He’s house-trained and loves kids. He's previously lived with smaller children, and he was an absolute star at Camp Humane this summer, running and playing keep-away with teenager campers. Both the kids and Ferris were in absolute heaven. Ferris has also done very well with other dogs. He's had many successful playgroups, where his great doggy manners shine. In playgroups, Ferris knows when to keep the game going and when to let a tired friend rest. He'll happily entertain himself (he's a big fan of kiddie pools, FYI) before checking back in to see if his pal is ready for more fun. Ferris is also a favorite office buddy at the shelter. He’ll happily spend time hanging out with staff, chewing on rawhides, solving nose games or relaxing with a lick mat smeared with peanut butter. What Ferris really needs is a home with space to stretch his legs. He’s happiest when his body and mind have a job — whether it’s a romp in the yard or park, an adventure walk or just a hard chew toy to keep him occupied. Ferris is an energetic, clever boy who just needs regular activity to help him relax into his best self. Once he gets his energy out, he’s content to curl up for a nap by your side. Ferris isn’t just looking for a place to stay; he’s looking for someone to finally say, “You’re home for good.” If you’re ready for a loyal, playful and loving friend who will reward your kindness and patience with years of devotion, Ferris is waiting to meet you.
