Meet GiGi: A Heart Full of Potential Waiting for the Right Home GiGi (short for Gidget) has come a long way from the scared, shut-down dog she once was. After being rescued from the shelter, where she would sit with her back to everyone, she’s slowly learned to trust and open up. It’s been a steady, four-month journey, but GiGi is now comfortable enough to sit outside her crate — her safe space — and she’s starting to explore the world with cautious curiosity. GiGi came into foster care after being struck by a vehicle. The vets initially thought they would have to amputate her hind leg due to a dislocated hock, but she healed beautifully without needing surgery. Now, she’s fully recovered — though she may experience some stiffness in the mornings or a slight limp on cold days. But don’t worry — it doesn’t stop her from breaking into zoomies when she’s feeling playful! GiGi is incredibly smart and eager to please. She’s potty trained, listens well when she trusts you, and picks up new things quickly. But trust is key — she’s still skittish and submissive, needing patience and a calm, steady environment to truly thrive. She does wonderfully with cats and young children, though the chaos of a toddler can sometimes overwhelm her. What GiGi needs now is a calm, stable home — ideally with a confident and relaxed dog to help show her the ropes and help her feel secure. She desperately wants to please but sometimes needs a gentle push and a rewarding end to build her confidence. Her motto is "steady but slow" — she’s making progress every day, but she’ll need someone willing to continue that journey with her. GiGi is truly a sweet, gentle soul who just needs the right environment to blossom. She’s very adoptable — both the vet and I agree on that. If you give her the time and patience she needs, you’ll be rewarded with a loyal, loving companion. Her crate (her safe space) and toys will go with her to help make the transition easier. GiGi has so much love to give — she just needs someone willing to give her the chance. If you think you could be that person, GiGi would love to meet you.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Gidget (aka GiGi), please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
