My story

Duke (a.k.a. Meatball) – The Big Softie Still WaitingThey named him Duke—but around here, we call him Meatball. Not because he’s clumsy (though he can be). Not because he’s round (though he’s got the best blocky head). But because he’s full of heart, love, and sweetness… all wrapped in 82 pounds of loyal dog.Duke was adopted as a puppy. He had a family. A home. And then one day—they just left him. No explanation. No goodbye. Just gone.He’s been with us since August 2024. That’s a long time for a dog who doesn’t understand what he did wrong.He was adopted again recently… for one day. He got loose, and the person brought him right back. No second chance.Here’s what we know:Duke is a good dog.He loves his toys. He loves being outside. He loves people once he trusts you. He’s strong and goofy and full of personality—but like so many big dogs, he doesn’t show well in a kennel. What you see behind the bars isn’t the real Meatball.Duke is about 6 years old now. He needs a home with a fenced-in yard, not just for safety, but because he truly thrives when he has space to play and explore.
