My story

Meet Terry – Your Future Best Friend! This handsome guy is Terry, a 1 year old Lab/Terrier mix weighing around 35 lbs—and just look at that adorable face! Terry was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, and sadly, he and his brother Tobii were left at a municipal shelter by their previous owner. Shelters there are often overcrowded, but luckily, we were able to rescue both boys and give them a fresh start. Terry arrived in BC on April 8th and is now being fostered in Vancouver—ready to meet his forever family! UPDATE FROM FOSTER FAMILY: Terry is a bright, eager-to-learn young pup with a heart full of love and a nose that’s always ready for a treat! His food motivation makes training a breeze, and he’s already making progress with leash walking, sitting, and coming when called. While he may not have had much formal training in the past, he’s a quick study and thrives on positive reinforcement. He’s especially attentive to eye contact and hand signals, showing off his desire to connect with his person. Terry is at that perfect age where he’s young, curious, and full of potential—a blank slate ready to grow into the perfect companion. He loves pleasing his humans and enjoys daily walks and dog park adventures. An active home where he can continue to explore, play, and learn would be a great fit for him. Since arriving in Canada, Terry has been taking in all the new sights, sounds, and experiences. While he’s been a little nervous at first, he’s already making great progress and gaining confidence every day. He’s a thoughtful, observant pup who likes to take his time processing new situations—and with gentle guidance, he’s learning to feel more at ease. We’ve been helping him feel more calm by practicing simple commands like “sit” when he seems unsure—this helps him regroup and relax. This kind of cautious behavior is common during a dog's initial adjustment period and we're already seeing his sweet personality shine through. We’ve also been doing socialization, and Terry shines when he’s around other dogs. He’s friendly with dogs, enjoys their company, and seems totally fine with cats too—even if they’re not as interested in him! He may sneak a nose into another pup’s food bowl at home, but he shows no signs of food aggression. He currently eats two meals a day and enjoys plenty of treats—and of course, lots of love and attention. He’s an affectionate boy, and he especially loves when people talk to him and engage with him. Terry is practicing his house-training skills and doing well with routine and close supervision. He prefers to do his business off-leash and is learning to give cues when he needs to go out. He can wary of unfamiliar noises in the house and yard, and may bark, but he’s becoming braver each day with gentle reassurance. If you’re looking for a loving, loyal, and smart companion who’s ready to join you on walks, playtime, and cozy evenings, Terry is your guy.
