My story

Hugo is doing his best to hang in there while he waits for a foster or forever home. He needs a hero and he really needs it fast! Please read the entire post to understand his situation: If you have been following us you know that Hugo is one of the longest residents we have EVER had and has waited over a YEAR for the right forever home. Hugo was born on 8/7/20 and is a large mixed breed. He needs a VERY particular adopter. He is looking for a single female home only. Unfortunately, he cannot under any circumstance be placed in a home with men (he has been ok with men in passing and did well at a Santa photoshoot). The reason we are requiring a single female home is because Hugo has had issues bonding with one human instead of both. We are trying to remove ANY issue possible to keep Hugo from being returned again. We think this is unfortunately a non-negotiable for him. He also requires a home without other animals or children. We realize that such a specific home is way harder to come by and that is why we are begging for help networking him so the right person hopefully sees his plea for help. With all that said, Hugo is really a good dog who just needs to find the right person for him. Our team is 90% female and everyone that knows or has worked with Hugo here adores him. Going on adventures is one of his favorite things—long walks, car rides, and exploring new & quiet places make him the happiest. He does well on a leash and is a very smart dog. He is up to date on all of his vaccinations and has been neutered. *PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO STRINGENT OUT OF STATE HEALTH CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS WE ARE NOW ONLY ADOPTING TO RHODE ISLAND RESIDENTS*. We apologize for the inconvenience. HOW TO GO ABOUT ADOPTING: 1. Come in during adoption hours to apply and full out an application completely. We have applications on site. Open adoption hours take place at 44 Worthington Road in Cranston, RI. We are open every Wednesday 3-7pm and Saturday 10am-2pm. 2. We require proof of homeownership (tax form, deed, mortgage statement) or landlord approval (a copy of your lease that clearly states you are allowed to have a dog, puppy, cat, or kitten OR written and signed consent from your landlord. 3. We require copies of up to date vet records for any current pets. Helpful reminders: *We do not do same day adoptions. *Please bring the entire family in to meet the animal you are interested in. *We will setup a meet and greet with your dog at a later date. PLEASE do not bring your dog with you when you come in to apply.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt HUGO, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
