My story

Hello, I’m Paxx (aka Oakley) and I’d love to tell you a bit about myself! *NEW pic update!* Breed: Hound / Labrador mixed breedAge: 9 months (d.o.b 06/27/2024)Gender: MaleWeight: 31 lbs / 14.2 kgHeight: TBDCountry of origin: MexicoHighlight(s): Young and eager to learn, friendly with other dogs and kids, adaptable, charming, sweet blue eyes When I was just a young pup, my brother Asher and I were left alone, abandoned, discarded (dumped sounds awful!  We're not trash...) in the hills of Puerto Vallarta. Lost, confused, and scared, we didn’t know what would become of us— until kind locals noticed our dire state and reached out to an incredible animal advocate. We’re so grateful they did! This amazing guardian made sure we had the food and water we so desperately needed, and she took us to the vet, where we were treated for tick-borne diseases. Though she couldn’t take us into her home, she found us a safe haven with a friend in Guadalajara, where we now live with other dogs in care at a shelter. I get along wonderfully with all humans, including kids! At just 9 months old, I have plenty of playful energy.  Now that I'm safe I love playing with the other dogs I currently live with— especially my brother, Asher. My ultimate dream is to find a home with someone who enjoys an active lifestyle and has a yard for me to roam around in. My striking blue eyes aren't just beautiful-- they're always scanning my surroundings and keenly aware of what or who is coming or going.  I can be your best friend, and a great watchdog! Daily walks, hikes, or fun playtime in a yard would make me so happy :) While it would be amazing to stay with my brother, I know that finding a loving forever home(s) is the most important thing for both of us. Despite my rough start, I have nothing but love to give. I’m ready to be your loyal sidekick for all the adventures ahead! My name, Paxx, means "peace" in Latin, and I truly don’t have a bad bone in my body.  I have also been given the name Oakley.  I'm pretty easygoing, so no matter what you'd like to name me, I will adapt and simply be happy to have your love! I've been shown a lot of kindness, though this shelter life isn't ideal for longterm.  Humans estimate I'll contine to grow to be about 40-ish lbs.  My striking blue eyes are searching for the love of my life— could it be you? Energy level: Medium to highI get along with:Dogs: YesCats: NoKids: Yes Fears: None observed. Somewhat unsure of passing cars during walks due to the time I spent on the streets.  I'm a young pup, please be patient assisting me in my transition.Training:Leash skills: Getting used to walking on leash. Responds to basic commands (in Spanish) such as "sit", "lay down", "give paw".  Please be prepared to continue training me.House-trained: Uncertain as I'm currently in a shelter. Please help me continue to learn! Health notes:I have been neutered & vaccinated. LALDR will pay for my microchip. My adoption fee is $800.00 CAD plus applicable taxes. This includes my transportation to Canada, if I am able to be accompanied by a flight volunteer directly to Vancouver.   Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue. Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live. Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.Basic training should be taken seriously but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you. The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs. Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if the dog is shown to be good with children we will approve homes with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website. While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or  Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs. You will NOT be charged the passenger fee in addition to this. ##2336396##
