Animal Profile: Tank is estimated to be around 8 years old and weighs about 15lbs. He was surrendered to RASKC when his owner passed away. He we very confused and stressed out in a shelter environment, so the shelter coordinator reached out to see if we could help. We could see that Tank was nervous and needed some time to decompress after going through such a dramatic life change. We look forward to getting to know him in foster care and matching him with a new family for life. Foster Update: Meet Tank (known as "Hank" in his foster home)! This sweet boy has gone through some stressful life changes, but he is making great strides and continues to settle into foster care. Hank has shown how awesome of a companion he can be in his foster home, spending his time playing with the resident dog & cat and enjoying fetch with his humans. He is incredibly food motivated, very smart, and so eager to learn! He has been a fun pup to train and he picks up on new commands quickly. Hank is also crate trained (he really loves his crate) and is not vocal in his foster home. While Hank has been a rockstar in his foster home, he does have some challenges that we are working through and his forever family will need to be comfortable advocating for him and his needs. Hank is fearful when meeting new people, so his owners do need to be comfortable advocating for him when in public spaces or around new people. He is not a dog who wants to be pet by strangers. After a slow introduction with new people, Hank can get comfortable with people outside of his immediate pack, but it does take a little time for him to accept you into his pack. Once the trust has been built, his guard comes right down and he is happy to show off the love that he is. Hank's foster family has also been working hard at building up Hank's obedience and improving his leash skills. Hank has been fearful around strangers and other dogs on walks, which has manifested in the past as barking/lunging as his way of keeping anything "scary" at a distance. With some leash training in place, Hank is doing SO much better and can pass other dogs and people with little reaction now. His forever family will need to be committed to keeping up with his leash manners. Hank's training has boosted his confidence and opened up his world, and we are looking for a forever family that is excited and committed to helping Hank continue to grow his confidence. Hank would do well with another canine companion, and he will need to be in an adult-only home.
