Pratt

My story

Pratt is deaf or very hard of hearing. He gets startled if something or someone comes up behind him. If he's outside, he seems most relaxed when he knows his person is nearby. He is very smart and learns commands using hand signals, but he has to be looking to know what you want. He knows some basic commands already and we are working on more. Pratt is very playful and curious. He loves exploring outside, smelling where other critters have been and following their trails even when they're long gone. He likes to play fetch with a frisbee and tug-of-war with a rope toy. Pratt is a big fan of peanut butter, chin scratches, and snuffle mats. Pratt needs a little bit of time to warm up, but after a few days, he will come to you for snuggles and belly rubs, and bring you toys to play with. He definitely enjoys the company of people and would do fine as an only pet. He's OK being on his own for stretches of time and keeps busy with chew toys or naps. If he's in a home with other animals, interactions should be managed to ensure they don't startle him, since he could think they're trying to attack him. Since he can't hear you calling him, Pratt needs a home with a fenced yard and should be leashed when he's out in the world. His family needs to learn how to train and communicate with him through sight and touch cues, so it will take effort. He's totally worth it!
