1/29/25 Poppy is a Beagle mix. She may be around 5 years old or so. We’re not sure. She came into foster 2 years ago after being pulled from the euthanasia list at County. She was going to be euthanized for biting a volunteer who mishandled her. She has not even so much growled at her foster family. She’s very skidding, but she’s learned to trust so much more since she was brought into the rescue. She was terrified of everyone & everything. She’s been in a foster home with other dogs, but she really should be an only dog. She seems terrified of the other dogs often, but she will get into a scuffle with them out of fear, so she should be an only dog. She also seems to really want to get closer and snuggle more with her foster mom, but with all the other dogs she really is too scared to. She’ll sneak up when the other dogs aren’t around, but she’ll take off when the other dogs come around. Poppy has been in a house with cats, and she doesn’t seem interested in them. She doesn’t bark, growl, sniff or stare at them. They have always been kept separated, but can see each other. If you have a cat, I would be careful on the introduction and not leave them alone together until you are positive they will be safe. Poppy could really use some basic training. She is terrified of the leash & even having a collar. Her foster thinks she was dragged on a leash & that was when she bit the person at County. It will take patience and time to help her with this. She uses the doggy door. She’ll also hold it, if she’s locked in while the landscaper or pool person is at the foster’s house. She has never had an accident at the foster family’s home. She’s very gentle when taking a treat. She’s used to free feeding and she doesn’t fight over food (resource guarding). She will actually sit back and wait to eat after others eat. She’s also patient to wait for her treats. The foster taught her to sit for treats. She will wait in a seated position until her turn. Poppy is super sweet and just needs a chance to be an only dog and be spoiled rotten.
