My story

Meet Katie! The Ultimate Snuggle Snack Queen! Looking for a best friend who will adore you, make you laugh, and steal your spot on the couch? Katie is a 5-year-old 32 lb. French Bulldog with a heart of gold, a love for snacks, and a smile that could melt glaciers! What a Journey: Katie’s journey is nothing short of inspirational—she was an owner surrender who came to the freedom squad after she was already with two previous owners that could not care for her. While Kaie was in our care, she was excitedly playing at the park chasing her foster sibling and was injured and lost the use of her back legs. We immediately took her to the specialist and had to decide if we were going to do surgery or treat her with medication. With advice from our vet, we decided to treat with medication and within a few weeks Katie was back up on her feet. With the help of her foster parents, some physical therapy and crate rest Katie is back to her usual self of just having a good time. Due to her injury, she’s also incontinent and wears a diaper indoors, but she rocks it with confidence. Her injury happened in the beginning of December, so she has recovered pretty fast and we are still hoping she will regain control of her bladder. This big girl had to be put on a diet that was a must and has lost about 8lbs and can continue to lose just a few more so it takes the pressure off her spine and discs. She is running around and harassing her foster siblings like she was never injured. Katie is still a bit wobbly on her back legs, but this just adds to her charm. To keep her thriving, she’ll need a family that will watch out for her, help keep her back healthy and help her stay fit. She would benefit from seeing a chiro or getting some acupuncture. Foodie Life: Another thing that doesn’t slow her down are snacks! Katie LOVES trying new foods! It is a great way to keep her active and fit with a great goal at the end. She loves healthy snacks and will want to please you for some! Whether it’s a crunchy carrot or a fancy gourmet dog biscuit, she’s always down for a taste test. Her current diet consists of salmon kibble, with pumpkin a topping with Kerfir and bone broth. Foster parents are keeping her activities limited so her idea of adventure at the moment, is finding the best sunspot to nap in. Love Bug Extraordinaire: Katie is an expert cuddler and would happily spend her days lounging in bed (like most Frenchie’s), snuggling on the couch, or soaking up all the attention you can give. She adores all humans and flashes her signature smile whenever she sees her favorite people. Katie is the ideal dog as is an amazing dog as she is crate trained, leash trained, easy to groom, and a huge fan of car rides. Behavior Traits: Katie does well with other dogs but sometimes she has a sassy side—sometimes she plays nice, and sometimes she likes to be the bossy queen of the house. She has a hard time knowing when to quit and must be corrected before the playful wrestle turns into a UFC match. She might resource guard her human because she is literally all about the attention. Katie will do great in a home with a more submissive dog that could care less about attention 24/7 or as an only dog. We feel that this may have a lot to do with her injury as when she came to us, she did great with the pack the first few weeks. Once the injury happened and Katie had to be on crate rest, she wanted nothing more than to be out and about with everyone! She will need to be with a family that can redirect her if there are other dogs, so she is not harassing them and trying to poke the bear to create a situation. Katie is a smart girl as you have read. She knows what to do and what not to do. So a family that can keep redirecting her in a positive way and reward great behavior is only going to make her thrive! Lets just say Katie likes to pout when she doesn’t get her way and gets a bit sassy with the others. Katie’s ideal family is laid-back, loves to relax, and enjoys spoiling their dog. If you’re looking for a fun, loving, couch-potato best friend to bring endless joy to your life, Katie is your girl! She is spay, vaccinated, and microchipped. You can apply to adopt her on our website freedomfrenchierescue.org, her adoption donation fee is $850.00 and is located in Casa Grande, AZ.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Katie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
