My story

How this pet arrived: Dexter was brought in by his previous owner on February 15, 2025. Why this pet is the one for you:Dexter is a sweet and active guy looking for a family that can appreciate his playful nature and give him the space he needs to warm up. He can be shy at first and a bit uncomfortable with the vet, so a Fear Free vet approach would be best for him. Dexter can be reactive on a leash when encountering other dogs (think barking and pulling), but he has lived with other dogs before and has a positive social history with them. He's a squirrel-chasing enthusiast and loves frolicking in the water or going on long hikes. Dexter is potty trained and has a positive history with kids, making him a fun, adventurous addition to an active family! At SDHS:Dexter has been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed/neutered. Dexter is now ready for their new home!Dog Reactive Dog:  This pet requires a virtual behavior consult, please watch THIS video to learn more about them. Dexter has been living with one of our amazing fosters and they have noted Dexter is a great listener and he does not mind hanging out in the kitchen or sun bathing while the foster works from home. They have also noted that Dexter is great on his leash and has no accidents in the home. Dexter has also won them over and they are allowing him to sleep on their bed.
