My story

Zuko is a friendly and tolerant dog but struggles with fear, anxiety, and impulse control. While he allows handling and can be affectionate, he has shown fearful behaviors, including growling at unfamiliar people. He benefits from a slow and considerate approach and should never be forced into interactions. Due to his fear and potential for defensive aggression, a home without children under 13 is recommended. Zuko also exhibits anxiety, making it important to provide mental stimulation, structure, and positive reinforcement training. With patience, proper management, and a calm environment, Zuko has the potential to build confidence and thrive in a supportive home.My #BoroughBreak Buddy Writes: Firstly, Zuko is a gift and I can't wait for his forever family to come and fall in love with him just as we did. The Zuko we met the morning of our BoroughBreak is completely different than the Zuko we returned with that afternoon. He's a sweet guy who wants to be heard, and seen, and loved for who he is, but needs someone who will really listen to what he's trying so hard to say. He pulled a bit and was a little all over for about an hour, then completely settled and was in my lap for cuddles. Zuko walks so well on the leash and didn't pay attention to other dogs we saw. He's a wonderful guy who could use a bit of confidence and a family to call his own.I will never run out of good things to say about Zuko. Though he came out bouncing like a kangaroo, he calmed down in about 5-6 minutes and well before we reached the end of the block. Something that seemed to help were the training treats. He was focused on those and showing us that he knows how to sit. The last time we took Zuko out, it took about an hour but this time he just settled into a happy trot and that was that. Zuko walks beautifully on the leash with very little pulling. He loves to explore and sniff, roll in the grass and in the mud, climb into my lap, and seems just really proud to sit on command. The park was very busy and Zuko was uninterested in children passing by, other dogs, and people we saw, remaining very close to us throughout. He's an absolute pleasure - eager to be a good boy so that he can be included Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 57 Age: 2yrs 6mths 2wks

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Zuko, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
