We named him Simon because he reminded us of a smug older British gentleman, LOL! While he still carries a bit of a protector attitude, we’re slowly getting him comfortable with human presence. Simon, along with his brother, has had a tougher experience with humans in the past, which makes him more cautious and alert than his sister Lilly. But with consistent positive reinforcement, Simon is starting to open up. Over the past few weeks, he’s become much bolder, even climbing on his cat tree and exploring the house more confidently. At first, he was too scared to leave his hiding spot for days on end, but with time and patience, he's gaining more trust. I can now lay on the floor while he eats, and I can touch him all over without him hesitating. He is very food motivated, so rewarding him during these moments has been key to his progress. If I had to describe him in three words, they would be cautious, hungry, and stubborn. Simon would do best in a home with someone who understands that he comes from a rough background and is willing to offer him the love and patience he needs. We’re confident that, with time, Simon will continue to make progress and thrive. However, given his occasional moments of lashing out, I would recommend a home without young children. He’s still figuring out how to feel safe around people, and having a calm, understanding environment will help him settle into the sweet, affectionate companion he’s meant to be.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Simon, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
