My story

Meet Fortune Cookie – A Smart, Sassy Survivor with a Heart of Gold! Fortune Cookie is a 8-month-old Shepherd/Boxer mix puppy with a whole lot of pluck and personality. This little lady came to the shelter with a fractured rear leg, but thanks to expert orthopedic surgery and a caring foster home, she’s made a fantastic recovery. While she still has a slight limp from post-surgery muscle loss, she’s using her leg well and thriving every day.Cookie is the full puppy package—playful, curious, and adorably mischievous. In her foster home, she was about 95% potty trained, knew to give signals to go outside, and was mastering the art of holding it. Like many pups, she occasionally has accidents in her crate, and we have seen the same in her kennel here. Food is life for Fortune Cookie; her foster mom used a slow feeder to keep her mealtimes calm. She associates her crate/kennel with reward time and actually loves going in for a frozen Kong or frozen snacks—no coaxing needed! As a true `power chewer,` Cookie needs strong toys like nylabones and heavy-duty Kongs. Despite her chewing instincts, she leaves her bedding alone and entertains herself happily with her favorite toys. Fortune Cookie is smart, treat-motivated, and eager to learn—but like many puppies, she’s still figuring out her boundaries. She can get mouthy when excited, our team has used redirection, chew toys, and clicker training to keep her focused. This bright girl is looking for a home that will continue her training, provide her with enriching activities, and help her grow into the amazing dog she’s clearly meant to be.
