My story

Good day. I'm Kola (Ollie.) Here is some info about me:Breed: Maltese WestieAge: 7 yrsGender: MaleWeight: almost 14 poundsHeight: 11 inchesHighlight(s): Straight soft fur, sweet, snuggly, calm, has glaucoma, trusting, affectionate Me and my bro, Cashew, are an undeniably adorable pair of twin-bonded brothers who will endear your heart with our sweet nature, snuggliness and love of chasing our favourite stuffy carrot and donut. We were born to a litter of four in Los Angeles and were saved from a kill shelter, thanks to an intervention of an organization that brought us to Vancouver. In our new home, we healed from neglect, learning to trust and navigate the world with the guidance of our adoptive family. We have flourished and share a remarkable bond. Unfortunately, our adoptive family’s circumstances have unfortunately changed, drastically. Our current adoptive family wants to ensure us boys go to a loving, nurturing home that is seeking two loving, sweet dogs. Our unique connection extends to our bathroom habits, seeing both of us go at the same time, simplifying your routine. We also share the peculiar habit of barking at garbage cans in motion and loyally alerting you to approaching visitors at the door. Most recently, I have been diagnosed with primary glaucoma. I lost the vision in my left eye. I require medication 3x a day for my eyes to manage the ocular pressure in my left and maintain eye strength in my right. Currently, I am responding very well to the medication. There is a risk of going blind or requiring surgery at some point. Hoping the medication is enough though.I am a gentle soul with a heart of gold and the epitome of calmness and sweetness. My trusting nature leads me to seek and give affection from everyone I meet, with an ever-wagging tail. I am excellent with children and people. Lap sitting is a fav of mine.We tend to prefer not having other dogs in the home. We tend to bark and get territorial, but eventually settle down. Dog parks are sort of hit and miss with who we engage with. I have no anxiety or resource guarding issues. I also walk very well on leash. We are trained in some commands and will even delight you with our "dance" when asked. We need to be adopted together, thus ensuring our emotional state, as well as your amusement. We are the perfect companions for a laid-back lifestyle. Energy Level: moderate to lowI get along with:Dogs: noCats: unknownKids: yes Fears: none observed. Please be patient in assisting me in my transition.Training: Mastery of essential commands: “sit,” “come,” “treats,” and “walk”.Leash skills: Yes. Please be prepared to continue training.House trained: Yes. Please help me learn where to go in my new home. Health Notes: Diagnosed with primary glaucoma in January 2025. Lost vision in left eye. Risk of blindness or surgical intervention at some point.I am neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Our adoption fee together is $1200.00 CAD plus applicable taxes. Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue. Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you. Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website. ##2305266##
