She was surrendered to ACC after being abandoned in an apartment. The finders kept her in their home for a few months and they indicate that she is shy around strangers, sometimes barking and growling at them, and is friendly with other dogs. During her stay, she has been social with handlers but has displayed dog reactivity and has engaged in leash biting and has lunged towards staff when kennel fighting. This has made it difficult to safely handler her in care as she has made contact with handlers hand in an attempt to leash bite. Medically, she is overweight.Pixie Stix is a 4-year-old medium mixed breed with a heart as big as her energy! She was found as a stray and cared for by a kind finder for about three months before arriving at the shelter. Now, she's ready to find a forever home that will give her the love and structure she needs.My Ideal HomePixie Stix would thrive in an active home where she can get plenty of exercise, training, and mental stimulation. She loves to play and will benefit from a family that enjoys walks, games, and interactive activities. Because she's still learning her manners, a home without young children would be best.Good with Kids?Pixie Stix has no prior experience with children, so a home with older kids who can respect her space and help with her training would be ideal.Good with Other Dogs?Pixie Stix has lived with other dogs before and is generally friendly and outgoing with them. She would likely enjoy a home with another playful canine companion, but slow introductions are always recommended.Leash MannersPixie Stix walks well on a leash and doesn't pull! However, she has a fun quirk-she gets excited when she sees pigeons and may try to chase them.
