My story

Name, age, breed: Walter, 3 yrs, ChihuahuaLikes: To spend as much time with you as possible. Dislikes: Does not like to be left alone for extended periods of time. What would be the ideal home? A quiet mature home. Walter is suitable for a first time owner. Good with other cats? Possible with the proper introduction, has lived with a cat in the pastGood with dogs? May be possible with a dog of the same size and activity level as Walter did previously live with another dog. Good with children? No children under 14 yrs. Walter does not do well with young children and may be best suited in a home with no children. Temperament: Walter is shy at first, but friendly once he is comfortable. Once Walter warms up to you he will follow you everywhere. Motivators? Walter enjoys treats, but not enough to use as a motivator. Any commands? SitHouse trained? Mostly, still needs training. Crate trained? No How long will it take to settle into a new environment? 3-3-3 rule: First 3 days - Your dog may be overwhelmed and may hide, have a lack of appetite, or test boundaries. Give them space and time to adjust in a quiet room with their bed, food, water, and toys. 3 weeks - Your dog may start to settle in and their personality will emerge. You can expect behavior issues to arise, so set boundaries and expectations with positive reinforcement training. 3 months - Your dog should be comfortable and acclimated to your home. They should know their routine and expect meals and enrichment at specific times.Any special needs or traits an adopter should know? Walter is a typical Chihuahua, he likes to sit on your lap but does not like to be overhandled. We would recommend reading his cues to tell when he has `had enough`.
