Name:  Runner     Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd and lab mix Best Guess for Age:   4 years as of May 2025      Gender:Male Approximate Weight:  45 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs!We haven't seen himwith kids or cats but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!  Currently Living At: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to come up after completing heartworm treatment.  Special Adoption Considerations: Runner is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! He's eager to once again have his own humans for long sniffy walks, romps in the parks, and all the adventures they can dream up. Runner wants to run! Making new pup pals along the way would be great too.  But what he wants most of all is to know he's safe and loved and under his own roof. In exchange he promises adoring gazes and loyal companionship for all his days. What do you say? Can you see him trotting by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once he has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with his foster.
