My story

Just say “Cheese!” Hi, there - my name is Cheese, and I’m a 1-year-old, 13-pound Terrier mix (with maybe a little Chihuahua in me, too!).  I’m a sweet – but fearful – little guy who’s still learning how to be a brave doggie in this big world. My brother, Cracker, and I came from a hoarding situation and were rescued by the San Diego Humane Society. Because of this experience, I didn’t get much socialization early on, so I’m still learning how to trust those I meet. All that said, I’m a shy pup who takes a little bit of time to warm up to new people.  But once I feel comfortable, all I want to do is be near you.  At the moment, I prefer females over males, as men tend to scare me (I sometimes growl at my foster dad). But, I love being near my person, chewing on my toys, and looking forward to mealtime.  I even make cute little noises when it’s time for breakfast and dinner.  Also in my spare time, I like to steal my humans’ clothes and stash them away in my crate. As for my training, I’m fully crate-trained, but my potty-training is a work in progress.  No leash training yet, but I’d love to learn once in my furever home.   I’ve already been neutered and don’t have any health issues.  Although I can get startled easily, I don’t have any separation anxiety when left behind.  I’d thrive with patient and loving owners who would allow me to open up at my own pace.  Another calm doggie in the home would be great, but I’m not sure how I’d do around kitties since I’ve never spent much time around them.  Even though sudden movements and noises frighten me, I am doing okay in my current foster environment with an energetic five-year-old boy.  If you have a big heart, lots of patience, and would love watching a shy boy blossom into a happy, confident pup, I could be the perfect match for you. My adoption fee is $400 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip.  If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/.   ##2280971##

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Cheese, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
