My story

Meet Benito! Benito arrived at the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility in August 2023 as a stray, with a severe injury to his back left leg that required amputation. At his age, he was also developing painful hotspots from lying on his side in the kennel. However, after spending some time in a loving foster home, his hotspots have healed beautifully, and he quickly adapted to life as a tripod—doing great and showing no signs of slowing down! This sweet and friendly boy loves attention, enjoys giving kisses, and is always happy to show off his "sit" command. He gets along well with other dogs, and despite his wonderful qualities, Benito spent over 500 days at the shelter without being adopted. But in February, he became a Frosted Face! At 8 years old and weighing 63 lbs., Benito is an absolute gem. His foster family has been able to see first-hand just how amazing he is in a home setting, and the verdict is in: he’s a very good boy! They report: "Benito is a great dog! He is honestly the perfect "beginner Husky" for anyone wanting to add a fluffy pup to their home, but worried about the energy level and noise. Here are the highlights of Benito’s sweet personality: * Benito lives to sleep! We have a ridiculous amount of dog beds and at any point throughout the day you can find him snoozing in one of them! * He loves walks! He will pull at first, but will settle down as long as he gets to sniff everything! * He is dog friendly and great with bigs and littles! * He loves respectful kiddos of any age! * Benito will “talk” at us when he wants something, but I have only heard him bark maybe twice. * He loves ear scratches! * He has no separation anxiety, when we leave he passes time, you guessed it, napping! * We have an "all pets welcome on the furniture" policy, but Benito honestly prefers to stay on the floor. He lets us put him on the sofa/bed, but after a few minutes hops down to enjoy his own space. * He sleeps through the night in a dog bed in our bedroom. * He gets around great and can do stairs no problem! * He is a super laid back pup and would fit in to almost any family." Benito has been going on a variety of outings with his foster family, and he's a well-mannered superstar wherever he goes. Their destinations have included downtown Chula Vista, walks with 2 & 4-legged friends, a farmers market, and even paddle boarding! Be sure to watch the fun videos of Benito's adventures!
