Meet Ezekial! In June 2023, Ezekial was surrendered to the San Diego Humane Society and soon after, he became a Frosted Face. We learned he loves having his ear and face rubbed and going on car ride and walks. It was clear that Ezekial had lots of love to give - he just needed a calm and quiet environment in order for him to feel safe. He was adopted in September 2023. Ezekial currently lives in a Foster home. Here's all the scoop from his foster mom: "Zeke is a gem! To me, he's a total sweetheart of a small dog. He has a great attitude, is energetic when adventuring but mellow when inside. He is adaptable and willing to learn. With people: Zeke is curious but slightly reserved when meeting people for the first time, but give him a couple minutes, and he'll be fine receiving pets. I hosted a party, and he did really well with the crowd, just walked around and found a few people to stop and chill with. Everyone who meets him says he's a sweetheart. Zeke is generally not a cuddler, but he's happy to sit with me on the couch, and curl by my side in bed at night. He is good with head pets, which I appreciate because his head is very soft, but I think butt scritches rank higher for him, and he will roll over for bell rubs sometimes. Exercise & Activity Level: Zeke definitely has energy to release every day. He loves a good lick mat, treat scavenger hunt, trick training, and obviously walks and outdoor adventures of all kinds. Most days we do about an hour to hour and a half walking around the neighborhood, split between morning and afternoon, plus some weekend outings. He just wants to be outside, sniffing, marking, and trotting around. When the leash comes out, he gets very excited and will grumble at me if I'm taking too long! Zeke loves the beach, and sometimes dog parks though I have stopped taking him while we work on his big dog reactivity. Definitely hiking, and maybe even trail running? I'm not a runner, but we did a few sprints and he loved it. The longest we've gone so far is 4 miles which I thought tired him out, but we hit a scent at the end of the trail and he perked up. If he has something interesting to do, he'll find the energy to do it! At home, Ezekial is happy to curl up and relax. He lets me know when he's ready for a potty break by whining/grumbling, and other than occasional alert barking, he is quiet. He sleeps all through the night in bed, he started his fling at the foot of the bed and now he likes to be close by the pillows. With Other Dogs: This is the one area where Zeke takes some managing. He's working so hard at being good, and he's definitely on the right track. At FFF, Zeke didn't have issues with the other dogs, but on the first walk we took he wanted to pull and chase after a dog we passed on the street. It seems like a lot of his reactivity is while on leash, though I have seen him have strong off leash reactions, especially with big dogs. I've been working with him on not pulling on leash to get at other dogs, and he's definitely improving, though he'll still whine to tell me about that dog he wants to go see. When we do meet dogs face to face, he's ok as long as long as they are calm. He doesn't like sudden movements and will lunge at the other dog. Treat distractions have been a huge win for passing other dogs while on walks, and for now we've been putting space between us and other dogs. Food & Treats: Zeke is highly food motivated, I ended up feeding most of his meals (as treats) during our morning and evening walks and supplementing with wet food as needed. He's absolutely not picky, and his tail starts helicoptering when he's getting a meal or treats. Potty habits: Zeke hasn't had any accidents in the house. I was told he was known to mark, but I just make sure I give him a good walk up the block minimum to get his bladder empty. I had him wear belly bands for the first two days, but he was done with those very quickly. Zeke can hold it for 8 to maybe 9 hours, but I normally don't have him go that long, mostly because he gets antsy and tells me before then. He's totally fine overnight as well. Other tidbits: * Zeke can catch treats and has learned a few new tricks. * He was skittish around the bathtub, but he's getting better and now will jump in on his own for treats! * He did not like his paws being touched, but he is much better since I started wiping down his paws after every walk. He expects it (and the treat that comes afterwards!) Zeke is so easy to have around the house, and he is an amazing adventure buddy. He is getting more confident by the day, and it's been wonderful to see him get used to all the changes around him. Zeke is so sweet, and I'm enjoying seeing him do his thing in a home."
