Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home. Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families. Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today. We'll update as more information is known. Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days? If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application. You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side. You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available. Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes? Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email. We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team Date into Rescue: 03/24/24 Reason for being in rescue: Four puppies were dropped off at our gate late at night in a plastic tote. The owners left a note apologizing and told us they could not take care of the puppies. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Bourbon is up to date on vaccines. He is neutered. Weight: Approximately 35lbs Height: Approximately 16in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $199 Fence needed? Yes, Bourbon requires a physically fenced in yard with a fence that is 4' or higher. What kind of home would be best for me? Bourbon requires a special home. He isn't looking for much, but he is looking for a few things. Bourbon is not suited for a home with children or children that visit frequently. He needs adopters who will not just see his past but believe in his future and provide the structure and positive reinforcement he needs to succeed. He needs a home with humans who are active and can plan to consistently and slowly socialize him. He needs more exposure to realize the world isn’t such a scary place. Bourbon is looking for a home with structure, patience, and a heart that sees past the surface. A home that understands boundaries, honors trust and doesn’t need guests coming and going to feel full. He’d thrive in a quieter environment — maybe as your one-and-only, or with another calm dog who respects his space. He’s not the kind of dog who wants the spotlight at a party. He’s the one who watches over you while you read, follows you room to room just to be near you, and curls up at your feet like he was always meant to be there. Unfortunately, Bourbon does have a bite history. He simply has stranger danger. Dogs need lots of socialization, and Bourbon hasn't had the opportunities that many dogs have. A ll of the individuals who he reacted to he did not know and had never met before, other than through a fence. To him, they were strangers invading his home. All were minor bites that were not severe and did not need medical attention. With that being said, it is vital and required that Bourbon have committed, experienced owners who are willing to be patient with him and safely socialize him around strangers. Bourbon would thrive most in a home with another large breed, confident dog who will appreciate and tolerate how playful he is. He gets along great with all dogs and all sizes; he just exists better with dogs who are equally active! What is my personality like? Meet Bourbon – A Loyal Soul With a Heart as Deep as His Name Bourbon hasn’t had the easiest path to where he is now. His journey through rescue came with challenges, confusion, and more change than any dog should ever have to face. But through it all, his spirit remained steady. And now, he’s ready to find the place he truly belongs. Bourbon isn’t for everyone — but for the right person, he will be everything. Bourbon’s world has been small — too small … because of this he is defensive and uncertain of how to act like a normal dog around strangers. But underneath this game of charades and pretending to be guard dog, there is a misunderstood spirit who simply was just not given the chance as a young pup. Bourbon absolutely adores his daily caregivers and typically behaves very well for them. He enjoys frolicking in the water hose on sunny days and playing with his toys. He also has a profound love for his wagon - yes we said wagon! He frequently takes naps in it throughout the day, and we have all agreed that the wagon is his source of comfort (and entertainment) at this point! This handsome, soulful pup doesn’t give his trust away easily. Bourbon takes his time, watches quietly, and makes sure your heart is steady and kind. But once you’ve earned his trust, you’re in. Fully. Fiercely. Forever. Bourbon doesn’t care for strangers or surprise visitors — his home is his sanctuary, and he’s not interested in opening a revolving door. But for his people — his pack — he will move mountains. He remembers every face, every routine, and every little thing that makes you who you are. He finds peace in familiarity, and once he knows you're his, he’ll protect you with the devotion of a thousand lifetimes. He doesn’t need chaos. He doesn’t need parties. He needs calm mornings, warm routines, and someone who understands that love doesn’t always come bounding up right away — sometimes it takes the form of quiet companionship, steady eye contact, and a paw placed gently on your knee. While he’s selective with people, Bourbon is a total sweetheart with other animals. Dogs - big, small, silly, or shy — he’s never met one he didn’t like. He reads their energy with ease and adapts like a pro. And cats - absolutely. He treats them with a calm respect that’s downright impressive. He's the kind of guy who just gets it. If you’re looking for loyalty, depth, and a protector who will love you harder than any dog ever has — come meet Bourbon. He’s waiting for someone just like you. How do I act when I first meet new people? Bourbon has stranger danger and is reactive and weary of strangers. If you are planning to meet Bourbon, it is required that you come with a bag of treats on deck and plenty of positive affirmations! After he understands you’re not a threat (which does not take long) he will then beg you for constant attention. He loves to jump on people when he’s very excited and gets extremely hyper-active when he’s around people he loves and feels comfortable with. If you’re willing to give him a little time and patience, it is worth the reward. He is very friendly and social as long as you give him time to trust you! Other tips and tidbits: Bourbon was dropped over our gate with no details. We have absolutely no history on him. Our vet estimates Bourbon's birthdate to be on or about 10/25/23. Bourbon is available for transport to New York! House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule if a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR. June 4, 2025, 7:57 am
