Hercules von Holzen is a 3-year-old majestic Central Asian Shepherd. While his breed is known for its unwavering loyalty and protective nature as a livestock guardian, Hercules is a tender-hearted soul who would rather curl up by a warm fire in the house than patrol the fields. Despite his impressive stature, he tends to be easygoing when it comes to leash walks, calmly strolling without a care in the world. While he doesn't enjoy the hustle and bustle of busy environments, he thrives in peaceful surroundings, whether it's basking in the sun or strolling quietly by your side through the neighborhood. Following a passing cat-test, both Hercules and his friend Athena proved themselves to be calm and tolerant companions to the felines in a foster home. In playgroups and on walks, they are both friendly toward any dogs they meet. Although they are laid-back spirits, true to their breed, they can be suspicious of strangers, so they will thrive best with owners who have experience with Guardian Breeds and understand the protective instincts that come with them. Hercules and Athena, however, are loyal and devoted companions who will return that loyalty with deep affection for those who earn their trust. Hercules is closely bonded with Athena, a beautiful 2-year-old Central Asian Shepherd, so we would like for them to be placed together. Hercules was rescued from the Inland Valley Animal Shelter. Weight: 103 lbs. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN Hercules von Holzen YOU MUST FILL OUT AN ADOPTION APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE: www.sheprescue.org Application link: http://www.sheprescue.org/Application_to_Adopt_a_Dog%20Main.html Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Hercules von Holzen, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
