My story

Elsa (ACCT-A-212511) first arrived at the shelter as a stray back in February 2025, found alone on a neighbor’s steps with no one to claim her. After being adopted, she was recently returned on June 8th, 2025. Her former guardian, facing homelessness, feared Elsa wouldn’t survive the summer heat. She was described as a “bougie” girl with lots of love to give, who prefers the company of adults and struggles in environments with children. Elsa is a beautiful, snowy-coated husky with a sensitive heart. While she can be timid at first, volunteers have shared that once she trusts you, she walks gracefully on leash and enjoys the peaceful companionship of a quiet stroll. She’s housebroken, knows commands like “sit,” “lay down,” and “up up,” and though she may pull with excitement when she sees other dogs, she responds better with a harness. She doesn’t care much for toys but thrives with gentle handling and calm affection. Elsa is seeking a home that will love her unconditionally and meet her where she is—a sweet, high-energy girl learning to feel safe again. Since she was a new arrival, she was very nervous and timid, rightfully so. It took a few minutes to gain her trust to allow me to leash her but once I did, she walked very gracefully on the leash. She wasn’t very interested in treats or toys but she did enjoy taking a nice long walk outside. Since she was a little nervous, I didn’t want to push her boundaries with too many pets but she did allow me to pet her. 02/03/2025 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: KNOWN HISTORY: Stray KENNEL PRESENTATION: Elsa was standing at the front of kennel with neutral body language and soft eyes. Stood calmly at the front while I leashed her and then exited easily without issue. LEASH SKILLS: Pulls minimally HANDLING: In the room Elsa remained calm and easy to handle. She was neutral in the room and did not have much interest in interaction. She was exit focused while out and was pacing by the door painting heavily. When I would approach her she remained neutral and tolerant to handling, but did not show interest in wanting to interact. She allowed me to pet her head and back without issue, but at times would flinch away from me when reaching for her face on or going for head pets. She never tensed or escalated, but did get annoyed with too much handling and would give signals when she wanted to be left alone. PLAY: No interest TOYS: No interest COLOR LEVEL & ANY RECOMMENDATIONS: Blue 02/02/2025 Very sweet girl but stressed, allowed all handling needed, refused to walk through kennel and had to be carried ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia.
