Cora is a deaf cattle dog who has been with her current foster since September 2025 as well as two previous fosters. She is up for an adventure every morning and will then lay by your side the rest of the day. She is athletic and driven in play and quick learning in training and games. These videos show her favorite activities of running, wading, and playing flirt pole as well as a glimpse of my training efforts. She is used to sleeping in bed with her people at our house and the previous one but naps in a closed room or kennel when left alone. Cora is thought to be 4-6 years old at this time and weighs around 25 lbs. It is apparent that she was not well socialized as a puppy but with the hard work of her fosters, she has become more tolerant of the world. The two things she still handles poorly are moving ceiling fans and guests in the house. Thus, we lock her away or keep her on leash when people are over. Although she has never been aggressive toward her family, she has had a few level 1-3 bites (on clothing, feet, and a hand) across her time with the rescue that I can tell you more about. Thus, safe management of the dog with guests is crucial. She is accepting of wearing a muzzle and will accept food from guests but does not tolerate handling from strangers. She has had mixed results with medication (traz/gaba), so we do not use it often. She has made a lot of progress in reactivity and now has a professional trainer to help us keep learning. Cora has always been the only furry pet in our home, but she has previously lived with others. It is reported that she would stalk resident cats in a previous home. She has lived well with smaller dogs (pugs, chihuahuas) and with heelers (male and female) of similar size, but may have been uncomfortable with large male dogs in previous homes. I think she may benefit from living with more confident dogs of similar size. She has never lived with kids as far as we know but is okay passing by them.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Cora, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
