My story

HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet this dog, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org.---- Friendly guy who sometimes needs a little time to warm up, but once he knows you he's your buddy and can even be a bit of a lap dog - Spent some time in a foster home and his foster family said he followed them everywhere and was very goofy and sweet - Loves tennis balls and squeaky toys and is great at fetch; also loves going on walks with his people - Enjoys chewing on bully sticks - Super smart and already knows sit, down, shake and come; also appears to be kennel trained and would go into his kennel and lie down on his own in his foster home - Eager to learn and is very treat motivated - Had no accidents while in his foster home; just remember that any dog may need time to get used to a new schedule - Was a low-maintenance, well-mannered housemate in his foster home, including being polite around food and when visitors came; his foster family said he also only got up on furniture when he was invited - Has done well when left home alone for periods of time - in his kennel or not - Loves going on car rides and is a perfect passenger - Enjoys going on walks and pulls a bit right now, so a harness would be ideal for him - Had a bath in his foster home and the family said he loved it! - Can still be fearful in some new situations, so he'll do best in a calm home with family members who can work with him to help him gain confidence - Can be unsure around other dogs and may prefer to be the only dog in his new home (dog intro required) - Showed some reactivity when seeing cats in his foster home, but he has not actually interacted with cats while in our care This pet qualifies for our 7-day Foster-to-Adopt program. If you're interested in fostering to adopt, please reach out to fosterinquiry@arl-iowa.org.All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 67.5 Age: 3yrs 8mths 0wks

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Opie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
