Meet Elvis, a 5-year-old (born November 2019), 65-pound, neutered coonhound mix. Elvis is a sweet boy who thrives on routine. He is smart and loves stuffed Kongs and snuggling under a warm blanket. This goofy boy loves to lope around the backyard, sniffing everything his keen nose can find. After a good exercise session, he likes to snuggle on the couch or settle in on a dog bed to chew a bone. He gets along wonderfully with cats, either ignoring them or playing a friendly game of chase now and then. He enjoys other dogs as long as their personalities mesh. Elvis is potty-trained and crate-trained. He sleeps quietly in his crate at night, but if given the choice, would prefer to sleep in bed with his human (under the covers, of course). He is a treat-loving, snack-adoring, super food-motivated boy. Elvis enjoys gentle strokes along his sides, back scratches, and oh, how he loves the scratches right behind his ears. He is an expert napper and doesn't understand personal space. He loves to snuggle up with his favorite humans. Elvis was adopted as a puppy in February 2020, just before the world shut down from COVID. As a result, Elvis had limited exposure to people. Although loving, loyal, and gentle with his family, he struggles with meeting new people. It will be important for Elvis's adoptive family to recognize his limitations and set appropriate expectations. Elvis is a sweet and loving dog. We'd love to find him his forever home. His ideal home would have a fenced-in back yard and no children under age 12. UPDATE 4/6/25: Elvis is doing so much better with meeting new people. He is now on anxiety medication, which has helped tremendously. His fosters worked with a trainer and found that Elvis does best being in his crate with a peanut butter treat when new people enter the home. Once the guests have been in the home 15-20 minutes, Elvis is calmer and able to come out of the crate to greet them politely. Treats help, too! UPDATE 4/25/25: Elvis was boarded while his family went away for spring break. He was a fan favorite while he was there, winning the hearts of the employees and making friends with the other dogs out in the play yard. We are so proud of this sweet boy!
