My story

Borris is a spry, affectionate 12 year old Chihuahua mix with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He lights up for his daily walks, loves rolling in the grass, and leans in with pure joy for every back scratch. He’s active but not overly energetic, just the right balance of spirited and calm. Borris enjoys the company of female dogs but would do best as the only pet in a peaceful, loving home where he can soak up all the attention. He has a heart murmur that’s managed with daily medication, and he takes it like a champ. Borris spent over a year in the shelter system, first in Lancaster, then Agoura, waiting for someone to see his worth. All that time, he was in constant discomfort, chasing his tail due to a painful bone fragment. Thankfully, Healthcare for Homeless Animals stepped in to fund his surgery, and he had his tail removed. In January, Shelter Hope took him in. He’s been with us ever since, over five months, and somehow, this lovable boy hasn’t had a single adoption application. Why? Even just one of Borris’s labels—a senior, a Chihuahua mix, or a dog with a heart condition—can make adoption harder. But Borris carries all three, and it’s no surprise that dogs like him are often passed over, especially in crowded shelters. That's exactly why we rescued him. When we look at Borris, we don’t see a list of challenges. We see a sweet, joyful companion who brightens every room he enters. He may have the odds stacked against him, but all he needs is one person to see what we see: a heart full of love, ready to share it. He deserves a loving home!! Be ready to adopt. Adoptions can happen quickly so be prepared for our call, only apply for dogs that every family member in the home wants, and wait to apply until you return from your vacation. Please fill out our online application and our adoption counselor will reach out to you to discuss meeting your new family member. Please be aware if we have already approved another party for the dog you are interested in, you may not get a call from us.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Borris, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
