My story

Dom is a sweet, chill, affectionate 5 year old big-boned American Bulldog mix who enjoys lounging around and cuddling with his people! This poor boy was surrendered to our local high kill shelter by his family, and we can't imagine why. Dom ended up on the euthanasia list but quickly became a volunteer and staff favorite. With no plan for another rescue to save him, we decided to step up and help give him his happily ever after! Dom is a bit overweight currently (around 65lbs) and has some joint pain/possible arthritis because of this, so he will need a strict diet and exercise routine and may need joint supplements for the rest of his life. His joint pain will only get better as he loses his extra weight, though! Dom is currently in foster care, and here's what his amazing fosters have to say about him: "Dom is doing really well! I think he looked a bit sad the very first few days because he must miss whomever he was initially with and he just had these eyes of just looking down but I think he’s been warming up and also getting more along with our 1 year old dog, Toby, too! Toby annoys him so Dom does snap at him but he doesn’t try to bite him; he just shows his teeth and wants to catch him but he’s too tired to run after him so he just gives up instead! He loves going on walks outside so we’re trying to get him to walk for just a good 10 min and now that Toby keeps bothering him, he’s been trying to run a little more after him. I think he’s getting a bit more exercise but nothing too crazy so that he can lose a little weight at a healthy rate! He tries to, but Dom doesn’t fit on our bed so he sleeps on his bed on the floor right next to our bed. He’s such a love bug and likes to cuddle and get pet. He’s like a big baby even if he’s a little older, but he likes to chill and cuddle up to us. We absolutely love Dom! We even changed his name to “Thom” and call him “Thomas” when he's being naughty. Toby can be very relentless and continues to bug Dom/Thom even if it’s just to kiss him on his face. They do scuffle sometimes when they each have a treat or toy since they want to have what the other one has. Just like siblings!" Dom is crate, leash, and potty trained and is good with other dogs, kids, and people of all kinds. He would love to be the only dog in a calmer household, but this is not required for him to live his happiest life. Dom is located in Houston TX but can be transported to most US states for adoption.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Dom, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
