She's your glamping cutie, passenger princess, drive-thru babe, heart stealer every where she goes. Her name is Athena and she has her bags packed and loaded ready to be cruisin' cute on Route 66. With those big brown eyes and that gorgeous brindle coat of hers, it's only natural that you find yourself already smitten over her. It was immediate for us too, so no judgements here! There is so much to love about Athena and if you have a list of boxes you want checked off when looking for a furry companion, she will probably check off 99% of them. Watch Athena here: https://youtu.be/GLy3XllHqtQ?si=VVj5N2sjPufHuIPM We believe Athena to be an American Pit Bull Terrier, Labrador mix. Estimated to be around 2 years old, Athena weighs in at a snuggly 53 pounds. She is a rescue, so her exact age and breed are unknown to us and cannot be guaranteed. Athena is a perfect combination of adventure and cuddle buddy. She'll chase the sunrise with you, then snooze in your lap by sunset. Always ready to match your energy, whether you're out exploring new places, crossing county lines or just need a quiet night in, she's right there with you all in every step of the way. If you work from home, she is perfectly content to entertain herself with a toy or chew bone, take a nap and not bother anything that will cause a distraction. She's also ready to switch gears whenever you're ready to go for a walk, play fetch in the back yard, or go on a road trip. Truly, she's the best of both worlds! Athena is uber smart, but not your average high-intelligence-high-energy type of smart. Athena is medium energy and knows how to prioritize a good nap or a cozy snuggle, but she also has a wonderful ability to learn, solve puzzles, and read your cues! Our behavior team says that Athena is such a talented girl that she would be a great candidate for agility training. She’s food motivated, takes treats gently, and eager to please. The perfect trifecta when it comes to training! Athena already has a few tricks up her sleeve like “sit,” “stay,” “come,” “down,” and “load up,” among a handful of other commands. She is crate trained, potty trained and she knows how to use a doggy-door! Bonus points for Athena! Athena is also, no surprise, good on leash. She loooooves walks too, the second the leash is in your hands, she’s ready to go! She gets so excited, with tail wags and pacing between you and the door. She plasters this huge smile across her face that will surely guilt you into many “I didn’t mean to touch the leash” walks. Athena is also an amazing tandem walker. After a quick sniff, Athena is ready to tandem walk with just about any dog. If you have a hiking group, a run club, or a few good friends with dogs of their own- Athena is ready to accompany you on those adventures too. Social and friendly, Athena is a people-lover to her core. She gets excited about meeting new faces and loves making friends seriously everywhere she goes. It may sound repetitive how much we keep highlighting that “travel buddy” “passenger princess” lifestyle for Athena and it truly is because of how wonderful she is in the car! We joke around and give her little slogans if she had any like “drive thru queen,” “highway honey,” “cruise control cutie,” and so many more because she loves car rides, no matter how long of a car ride either! It can be anywhere from just down and street and back to even crossing state lines! She’ll be right there sitting shotgun and looking out the window happy as a clam. She’s a perfect “adventure dog,” and such a charmer that any “adventure” with her turns into her own personal social hour. Hence why one of her slogans is “drive thru queen” LOL she loves pups cups and is an window service crowd pleaser! Athena’s sweetness can turn any room (or car) into a party. Another thing that makes Athena such a great travel companion and road trip bestie is she doesn’t bark or get all crazy excited when she sees another dog right outside the car! She doesn’t even flinch when that happens, she just sits there and watches completely un-phased or bothered. She also doesn’t get antsy waiting for you to load up the car or if she knows y’all are getting close to your destination. Again, she just sits patiently in her seat and every so often will lean into you for affection. Athena is dog friendly and does great with dogs her size and with dogs 10x smaller than her. She has lived in a home with a tiny little Chihuahua and has met Mateo (a 12 lb scruffy guy) and has done great with him too. Mateo is our small dog tester and he meets all sorts of dogs so he knows if a dog thinks he looks like a cat or some other critter LOL and he was immediately comfortable with Athena. after 5 seconds of meeting her. They shared affection with each other, the couch, and we're happy and content simply hanging out. Athena wasn't all in his face or bugging him to play, she was happy to entertain herself, play with her toy by herself, and happy to enjoy some relaxing down time. With other dogs her size, it's the same thing just add a little more play. She is perfectly happy doing her own thing and going on her own little adventure or she will play and engage in those rumble and tumble wrestling moments. Athena can do both and she prefers being around other dogs that enjoy doing both as well. She loved playing and spending time with those happy go-lucky type fellas that enjoy playing, tolerant of rougher play every now and then, and also appreciate those relaxing moments to just hangout. Athena would be happy being your one and only fur baby too if you don't have other dogs. She does not need the company of another dog to help her feel comfortable nor does she need another dog to fulfill her energy needs. She is a natural social butterfly and has a well balanced energy to match whatever you need from her. Athena is also good around kids ages 4, 5, 7, and 11. She love love loved being with the 11 year old Elijah! She was immediately so comfortable around Elijah and really enjoyed spending time with him. They ran around together in the yard, played on some agility equipment, practiced some commands, played fetch, and of course shared all the affection with each other. In her video, you will hear us talk about how in the past she was not the most comfortable around kids younger than 5. After spending some time with Elijah and bonding with him, she met his little brother Kobe (4 years old) and also Kobe’s friend Eleanor (5 years old), and Athena was wonderful with both of them. You can see her taking treats from them both, listening to commands, and sneaking in a few kisses here and there. The more and more time spent with the younger kids, the more comfortable she was around them and the fact that Elijah was there too. Throughout the entire time Athena was with all of the kids, she kept going back to Elijah and just loved being around him and the way he interacted with her. He was fun to be around, he worked and stimulated her brain, played fetch with her, was predictable with his movements, and was respectful about her personal space as well which is why she kept coming back to him for more affection and engagement! If you have kids, friends that have 1-2 kids that come over for visits or even grandchildren that come to visit, Athena will be best with kids 7+ and will thrive with slower introductions with kids younger than 7. Athena’s perfect home would have a big backyard for her to stretch her legs and get the occasional zoomies, plenty of space for her to play a few rounds of fetch, and of course an area where she can soak up the sun and bonus points if you have a pool or buy her a kiddie pool! Athena would be an amazing match for anyone with an active, outdoorsy lifestyle- she’s a “go anywhere, do anything” dog- so brave, loyal and confident. She would love to be your passenger princess traveling the world with you, side by side! So if you're someone that likes to go camping, travel a lot and looking for a road trip bestie, Athena is hands down your girl! Adopt Athena and bring endless love and joy and love into your life! We are willing to test Athena with anything you need us to in order to ensure she’s the perfect match for you! We can make anything happen! Just let us know. Our rescue has a 2 acre property in Texas where we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group trainings and socialization play groups to keep dogs adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress! Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet. The rescue’s hard costs alone for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,120. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that Three Little Pitties Rescue is not government funded. It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: ● Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family ● Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test ● 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion ● A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions ● 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription ● Coupons for a fun visit to Petco ● 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions ● Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer ● Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission!
