My story

Meet Chia! Chia was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Houston, where she was scheduled for euthanasia due to lack of space at the shelter. Chia is a 1 year old, 45 lb, gorgeous Catahoula / Blue Heeler mix. Since she is a herding dog, we would love an adopter with herding dog experience. From Chia's foster: * * * * "Chia is an incredibly friendly and cuddly pal to have around. She is a spirited and affectionate girl. She likes to be held and snuggle up. She loves the snow and playing with toys. She has young dog energy and loves to play and wrestle with our other dog. She will curl up at night with you or sleep in her crate if needed because she does tend to hog the bed. She loves going on walks or trips in the car... fair warning if you go through a drive through she will be expecting a pupcup or a little treat. She takes a little bit to warm up to new people but if they give her treats in a calm environment she will love them. She’s potty trained and is incredibly smart if you need to teach her something new it won’t take long. She is very intelligent and responsive to training. She knows "leave it", "drop it", "sit", "lie down", "go to your spot/crate" and is learning more commands everyday. She’s also protective and will make it very clear there’s someone at the door and will keep watch until they’ve been let in and give her a treat. She’s always happy to play and loves her stuffed animals but if you’re having a quiet day or not feeling too well she will happily join in and lay around with you. She is a young herding dog, so thrives with enough exercise and mental stimulation. While she doesn't do great meeting new dogs when she is held back by a leash, off leash she is great with other dogs and would do well in a home with another dog! She loves spending time in the backyard. She's obsessed with the squirrels and enjoys playing with her "stuffy on a stick'. This is her favorite game/toy! She would excel at agility training and is a natural born herder. She's never destructive when left alone with the other dog. They share toys and bones - without too much complaint. Chia uses a snuffle mat and a slow eater bowl - these help provide mental stimulation. Chia is a smart girl who needs things to do! She is eager to please and will work for treats!" * * * * We would prefer that Chia go to a home with someone who is familiar with herding breed dogs. Chia is up to date on her vetting and vaccinations to stay true to Farfel's commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs. She has also been spayed to fulfill our commitment to ending the tragic canine overpopulation challenge. Chia is available for adoption now. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If you're interested in this sweet, cuddly and fun-loving best friend, please fill out our application completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Chia, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Chia, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
