Meet Rupert Rupert is a six year, 9 lb, 4 oz, potty trained little snuggly guy. Here's his story as of Monday, Feb 24th. After many months, I am OVERJOYED to finally introduce my foster dog, Rupert. Rupert was tied up in a cruelty case so his identity had to be kept under wraps. But this week, due to the hard and heroic work of the staff at East Providence Animal Control, Rupert's case is over and he is released and ready to find his forever home. His story is a bit of a sad one to start, but at present, he is a very happy little man. Rupert was part of a hoarding situation, he was not injured, but there were injuries to animal(s) upon the raid of the home. All of the animals were brought to the safety of EP shelter where they immediately received vet care, and a huge amount of love and empathy. How did I end up with a then 15 lb Chihuahua? If you remember, I had undergone major surgery in the early fall and once I was cleared to lift 15 lbs my search for my next foster began. Who wants to be couch bound for a long recovery without a snuggle buddy? Not me. Over the months I am proud to report that we got Rupert down to 9 lbs, his goal weight. He had a few teeth removed. He settled in seamlessly. He is now ready to find his forever home. As with any dog coming into our programming, he has some issues. We are looking for an adult only home for Rupert as he does not like to be surprised with quick movements when he is on the floor. He has been with humans of all ages, but due to some resource guarding of myself, direted at dogs, he may do best in a home with a dog who is willing to just co-exist with him or no other dogs. He has been fine with cats, save a specific cat known to have aggression issues attacking Rupert. Even after that incident, he has shown no negative or fearful reactions toward cats. We would prefer no kids, but older kids may be considered on a case by case basis. Rupert is a mellow, snuggly little guy. He brightens each day. He loves to be held and cuddled, and loves to sleep under the covers in bed. Due to the behaviors mentioned above, he has a Take My Lead trainer, Kristina Lowe of Kristina's Critters. We strongly suggest that the FREE training that our Take My Lead grant provided be used to help Rupert learn to be the most comfortable he can be in his new home.
