Meet Nugget Monster ACCT-A-179573! This handsome boy is a 4-year-old male and came in as a stray on 10/30. His finder noted that he was "friendly with strangers, walks okay on leash and was friendly and playful. Behavior Notes: Per volunteer 11/6:Volunteer let me know that Nugget Monster did phenomenally today when she took him out. He pulled mildly on leash and did so well when seeing other dogs. He solicited attention and allowed all handling 11/01 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: Nugget Monster KNOWN HISTORY: Stray KENNEL PRESENTATION: Nugget Monster was laying on his bed facing the opposite direction when I approached. He ran to the doors and jumped up with neutral eyes. He sniffed the leash curiously through the bars, and got down when I opened the door. He was easy to leash and came right out LEASH SKILLS: Pulled strongly HANDLING: We took Nugget Monster to the big yard to see if being in a different yard would help him interact more. When we got to the yard he pulled strongly to sniff around the yard. He wanted to zoom around and run, but we didn't drop the leash at this point as he was very aroused. He was stress panting and pulling strongly in every direction. When offered treats he sat right away, but jumped up and tried to snatch the food. He is very snatchy, and doesn't have great inhibition, so open palms or tossing treats works best. He continued to jump and nip at the handler's hand once the treat was gone. He's persistent, but once shown there is no treat, he stopped. He got cuddly at one point and jumped into my lap, allowing all over pets and handling with no issues. Another staff member came into the yard and Nugget Monster greeted them with sniffs and mid level wags. When we were returning to the building he walked through the adoptions lobby and greeted another staff member with soft eyes and mid level wags. We were also able to get a harness on him with no issue. He allowed me to hold him between my legs and allowed another handler to reach completely over, under, and around him without an issue. When returning to kennel he hopped right in! PLAY Aroused TOYS: Interest but no possession Per staff 10/31: "Tried to get an eval on Nugget Monster today to see how his behavior was. He came running to the front of kennel when he saw me and jumped up on the door. He was patient for leashing, and we double leashed him out of an abundance of caution. We went outside since the eval room is full of overflow dogs in crates. Unfortunately when we were outside Nugget Monster was very aloof and would not interact with us at all. He would flinch and move away whenever we tried to touch him, but would not even pick up his head form sniffing to acknowledge us. Will try again tomorrow to see if he will interact at all. Per staff 10/31: "Very reactive in kennel- snapping, snarling, lunging up at you on the bars of the kennel. Per staff 10/30: "Lunged and snapped multiple times during intake. The first time was when I walked in, he was very happy wiggly butt I baby talked him and gave air smooches then walked by and he lunged and hard barked. I needed to scan him for a microchip and he smelled the scanner and started hard barking and lunging. was able to be redirected and was able to get scanned. He randomly lunged when i grabbed a hotdog to put on the pyrantel. I noticed he was very hungry and I was able to give vaccines with little to no issue. I had to add more cream cheese to the floor and he gave me no issues with the microchip. He lunged again when I grabbed the flea treatment. he then lunged and nipped me when squirting the flea treatment. Medical Notes: Per an intake exam on 10/30: Nugget Monster was found to be in good general health. Staff noted he was "friendly at first then lunged anytime he didn't like something.
