My story

I would like to introduce you to Grover. Grover is a 2-3 year old boxer mix. He is full grown at 68 pounds. All Grover wants in life is a person to call his own. He has been searching for some time, but keeps getting over looked. The ideal home for Grover would be an adult only home. He does also need a dog savvy owner. He can be very stubborn and needs someone to guide him on what is expected. He can do ok with other dogs with slow introductions. He can be a bit dominant so a submissive female may be best. He currently lives with 2 smaller dogs and does well with them. He would do best in a home with no cats or other small animals. Grover is food motivated and really does want to please his person. With training he will make an amazing companion. We have been working on basic commands in the home. We are currently trying to teach him to talk using buttons. So far he has shown some interest, but has not used the buttons on his own yet. Grover loves going for car rides. He loves sticking his head out the windows and feeling the breeze. We do seatbelt him in for his safety. He also loves walks. He can be strong on leash so we do use a gentle leader head collar for walks and he is usually a perfect gentleman. He has had 2 knee surgeries, so he may need to work up to long walks. He can currently do 1-2 miles with no problems. We do have an exercise booklet of things to help strengthen his knees. We also have him on a glucosamine supplement to keep his joints healthy. Grover does have a sensitive stomach. We keep him on a fish based diet and avoid any other proteins. Chicken seems to be the worst. We will use probiotics as needed too. He is a healthy boy otherwise. In the home Grover will play with toys. He loves a good game of tug. He will also drop his toys for you to throw. Once he has gotten some energy out he is up for a good snuggle on the cough. He loves to be near his people. Grover is fully potty trained. He is crated trained and overall does well in there. He may even do ok if left to roam while his people are away. Grover is past the puppy stage and has shown no desire to chew anything he shouldn’t. Grover is a good sport when it comes to dressing up for photos. I think he would love to have his own instagram account! Grover is a great dog. He just needs the right person to give him a chance. He will be your best buddy forever! If you would like to meet him, please call Annie at 815-685-0746. His adoption fee is $275. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive - deworming

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Grover, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
