My story

Are you looking for your ride or die? Look no further. Rider is here to apply for the position. He is a 2.5 year old Boxer mix that weighs in just shy of 70 pounds. Rider has been looking for his forever home for awhile. He was found as a stray October of 2023 in Southern Indiana. He eventually made his way up to Rover Rescue. He has gone through 2 knee surgeries which has delayed finding his finding his forever home. He is ready to settle down. We have him on a joint supplement to help with arthritis from his surgeries. He is also on a single protein diet and probiotics due to a sensitive stomach. He has been doing well with these though. Rider does need an adult only home. He also needs a dog savvy owner. He likes to see what he can get away with and needs someone to continue working on his manners. He has come a long way in his time with Rover Rescue. Rider loves car rides. He thinks there is nothing better than sticking his head out the window and feeling the wind in his face. We do seatbelt him in for his safety. Rider also loves walks. After his knee surgeries we are building up his endurance. He does tend to get excited and pull, but minds the gentle leader. Rider is living with 2 smaller dogs. He loves to romp and play with his foster brother. He respects his crabby older sister. He does need slow introductions. He can sometimes get fussy with new friends at events. We think it may be a little leash reactivity. He may do best with a submissive female. We have noticed some prey drive with Rider and would recommend a home without cats no cats or small animals. Rider is crated while his family is away and at night. He will go in willingly for treats. Sometimes he may sing a little song when his family first leaves, but will settle down. Treat toys sometimes help too. Rider is fully house trained and has not had any accidents. Rider is overall a pretty laid back guy. At night he loves nothing more than snuggling on the couch with his people. Rider may seem a little rough around the edges at first but will be a loyal companion with some work. He wants to please his people. Please give this guy a chance. If you would like to meet him, please call Annie at 815-685-0746. His adoption fee is $275. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive - deworming

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Rider, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
