UPDATE FROM JUNE 22!!! Ok…time for me to stop gatekeeping one of the best, easiest and most low key foster dogs we’ve ever had. Duggie is literally perfect. He had a spell where he had some PTSD from roofers working around our area but he is right back to being house trained, no accidents and such a lazy love bug. Just keeping it real folks. I’m in no hurry for this boy to find his forever because we love having him BUT we are having our roof redone in July. There is NO WAY he can be in our home while this happens. It would set him 1000 steps backwards and we refuse for that to happen. GRRAND is offering to find a vacation foster for him which is so appreciated but if at all possible, I would like to have him find his forever home before that so he doesn’t have to be bounced around. Here’s the run down on Duggie aka Shelby: He is low energy, house trained, can be left alone with low anxiety, great with or without another dog sibling, loves to chill and snuggle. What he must have: a fenced yard, has to stay local, kids older than 6 or 7, someone who will let him literally try and embed himself on you during thunderstorms. This Is a must! I will teach adopter the trick to keeping this sweet boy calm. BONUS!! If adopter is someone we know or willing to stay in touch…we will be your free dog sitter when you travel if we are available! This boy Is a true diamond in the rough. He just wants love and maybe a 2 minute game of tug o war, some snuggles and he’s good to go. Please share if you feel so inclined. He deserves the best forever family! Shelby is one of the Spencer County hoarding dogs that came to GRRAND in Sept 2024. He is a 2 year old, about 50ish lb, male Lab/Golden mix. He MUST go to a home with a secure above ground fenced in yard as he is still a flight risk. He was named Shelby as initially GRRAND was told Shelby was a female, but nope... he's a boy! He has been in the kennel since recently, so his name stayed Shelby. Shelby has come SO far in his rehabilitation, and FINALLY is happily in a wonderful foster home, and they wanted to give him a BOY name that more suited his personality, SO Duggie it is... however he will still be referred to as Shelby for GRRAND file and records purposes. Shelby still has troubles from his past that he is working through, but his foster family is thrilled with him, and this is what they have to say: "Meet our new foster Duggie! (Also known as Shelby if you follow GRRAND on their website and social media). Dugg- named after the cartoon character Dug from the movie UP is such a character! His perma grin and non need for speed makes him the perfect companion for that adopter looking for a chill fur buddy who just wants to binge watch Paw Patrol while they read, nap or binge watch with him. Duggie is from the same hoarding case as another one of our fosters who has since been adopted (Butler) but Duggie is way more affectionate and chill. When I say this dog is perfect…I mean he is so perfect for the right adopter! Here are just a few of his "SUPER-PAWSOME traits" 1- super sweet 2- not anxious with loud noises inside the home 3- low energy (can you say couch potato?!) 4- loves snuggling/affection 5- zero aggression (with food or other dogs) 6-no separation anxiety 7- hasn’t chewed anything but toys and can be left alone for hours at a time if necessary 8- would be fine with kids 6 and above So what "SUPER-PAWSOME" traits does he need to work on? (it's not long) 1- leash walking 2- house training but with a side note **when Duggie arrived a week ago, he had never seen stairs or been in a home. He walked right up our stairs and into our house like a champ! No anxiety. No issues. He proceeded to follow my dog in and out for potty breaks and did not have an accident for 3 days, however on day 4, he went outside and something triggered him…BAD. This poor guy, bolted up the stairs to the door and hit the ground until I got there to let him in. He shook and panted for over two hours before he calmed down. We have two houses (next and behind us) that are getting their roofs replaced and as you can imagine, it’s loud. Since that day, we have not been able to get him back outside again. We have tried everything. And trying to take him on leash was traumatic for us all as he tried to get out of his collar while flipping around like a fish out of water. Sooooo since then he has held it all day and while we sleep, goes potty. After talking to GRRAND for advice, a volunteer recalls him being outside at the kennel when a car backfired and he did the same thing. I learned that Duggie came from a very ugly and tragic past, and those loud noises are possibly triggering something deep inside him, that has very much caused him PTSD. That would certainly track with what we have seen. We are trying all the things we can and I’m hoping once the roofing is complete we can get him back to feeling safe outside. You can see his personality in the photos. Duggie needs to stay local in LVL, and MUST have a fenced yard as he’s a flight risk and can be fine with another dog or solo. Something else that blows my mind is he really doesn’t shed!?!? If interested in this sweet boy…please reach out to GRRAND!" We are so happy to hear things are progressing so well for this sweet boy and if you would like to open your home to adopt Shelby, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org or if you would like to donate to the care of the other needy dogs that came from the horrible hoarding case, please click the GOFUNDME link to learn more... https://www.gofundme.com/f/rescue-for-dogs-in-deplorable-conditions ##2190139##
