My story

Hi, friends! I’m Benny – a fun-loving, one-year-old mixed breed pup with a bit of German Shepherd in me! I’m about 65 pounds of goofy energy, and I’ve already been neutered. I’m a sweet and silly guy who loves to play and cuddle. Once I get to know you and feel safe, I’ll be your loyal sidekick and ready for any adventure. Some of my favorite things? Tug-of-war, fetch, romping in the yard, and playing fun food games during training sessions! I’ve been working on my training and have come a long way. I’m super food motivated, eager to please, and I learn quickly! That said, I do have a few challenges I’m working through – including anxiety, some reactivity, and resource guarding. I’ve also had moderate separation anxiety in past foster homes, but with a structured routine and clear boundaries, I’ve made great progress. I’m fully potty-trained, walk nicely on a leash (with just the occasional reaction to other dogs or loud noises), and I do pretty well in my crate, although I might bark a bit at times. I enjoy the company of other dogs, but I do need some special considerations: no high-value items like bones, chews, or food should be around when I’m with my furry friends. I can get a little too possessive. Toys are okay, but I need to be supervised. As for kids – I’d do best in a home without them, as I can get overwhelmed and escalate quickly. I can live with cats, especially if they’re confident and dog-savvy! Now, just so you're fully in the know — when I feel uncomfortable or overwhelmed, I’ve reacted by biting in the past. I warm up more easily to women than men, but with time and patience, I can build trust and friendship with anyone. I'm especially sensitive around other dogs if they get too close to something I think is mine – I can go from 0 to 100 pretty fast in those situations. My ideal home would be one with a strong routine, ongoing training, and no young kiddos. I could potentially have a calm, older dog sibling – but we'd need to take things slow with introductions, and you’d need to manage our space carefully (like rotating chews and feeding separately, preferably with me in my crate). I’ve got a big heart, a big personality, and yes – big emotions. But with the right home that understands me, I know I’ll make a loyal, loving, and super fun companion.  My adoption fee is $400 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip.  If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/. ##2146965##

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Benny 3, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
