PLEASE VISIT THIS WEBSITE TO FIND THE ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE: http://www.homewardtrails.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-forms/ HOW TO MEET THIS ANIMAL: LOCATION: Foster home ADOPTION COORDINATOR: Lani at Lanihtar@gmail.com ADOPTION FEE: $475. This fee INCLUDES spay/neuter and microchip. **Ask me about our many adoption benefits that include free exams, pet insurance, training and other discounts! ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 20 lbs KNOWN WITH DOGS: Gabe should be an only dog. He has met dogs and are fine with some, but would rather be on his own. He loves to be the center of attention and cuddle up next to his foster. KNOWN WITH CATS: We're not sure how Gabe is with cats. Let us know if you'd like us to find out! KNOWN WITH KIDS: Gabe is still a bit shy meeting new people so right now, we'd recommend older teens or just adults for Gabe KNOWN COMMANDS: Sit KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: Gabe settles nicely in his crate. He is house trained. KNOWN LIKES: Liver treats, people that go at his pace KNOWN DISLIKES: People moving too fast with him About Gabe: Imagine a SPECIAL NEEDS senior dog like Gabe, a bit grey around the muzzle and maybe with some slight stiffness in his joints, but with a heart full of warmth and affection. Gabe finds immense pleasure in the simple things, like snuggling next to his foster and sitting by a door or window to get the golden rays of the sun. Gabe was returned to Homeward Trails due to his medical needs. He has been diagnosed with pulmonary edema and a heart murmur, which leads to fluid buildup in his lungs. His pulmonary edema has been resolved. He is on medication to manage his heart murmur. Additionally, Gabe has been diagnosed with Glaucoma in his right eye. The veterinarian has advised that the eye be removed as he was experiencing pain and headaches. After losing his right eye, it is suggested that any potential adopter approach him from his left side so that he can see them. Despite dealing with pulmonary edema and the loss of one eye, Gabe takes pleasure in his favorite pastimes, which include lounging on his bed, basking in the sunlight by the windows, following his foster mother around the condo, and exploring the outdoors for intriguing scents. He often takes a moment to watch passing cars or sanitation trucks. How can I describe Gabe? • The Sunbather: You'll often find Gabe stretched out on a warm patch of floor, soaking in the sun's comforting warmth. • The Snuggler: Beyond the sun's warmth, Gabe craves physical closeness. He will seek you out for cuddles, nestled close to your side on the couch, or nestled under a soft blanket. • Content and Calm: Gabe’s happy sighs and relaxed posture indicate his enjoyment of these simple pleasures. While in his younger days, he may have been filled with energetic play, he now finds contentment in quiet companionship. • The Routine Seeker: Gabe thrives with routine. It contributes to his health and metal well being. • A Heart Full of Love: Despite his slower pace, he still has an abundance of love to give, expressed through gentle nudges, soft sighs of contentment, and the warmth of his presence beside you. Gabe would flourish in a home where he is the only dog, as he enjoys being the focal point of attention. He is a gentle and loving dog who values short walks and cuddling with his human companions. Gabe prefers the warmth and comfort of a cozy home. During his walks, he shows little interest in other dogs; when he encounters one, he usually stops to observe. It is advisable for him to have access to a yard, as he tends to feel anxious when walking outside. Gabe closely follows his foster around the house and rarely barks, spending most of his time resting. He only barks in response to sounds in the hallway but can be easily redirected, even when barking at dogs outside. Gabe is a sweet and loving companion who is easy to care for. What does Gabe value the most? He enjoys spending time with people, finding joy in simple moments and offering unconditional love and affection.
