My story

Most of us cannot imagine our family abandoning us. Well, Coconut didn’t either until one night he found himself tied to a tree behind the Mesquite Animal Shelter. Luckily employees spotted him there when they came to work in the morning and brought him into the safety of the shelter. Coconut is a 1yr old neutered male Retriever lab mix that weighs 62 lbs. He was abandoned on 10/14. It appears he was well taken care of. He’s an active guy. His sense of smell is very keen. It was difficult taking pictures of him as he kept his nose to the ground. He does jump on you out of excitement and needs to be told to get down. The longer he has been at the shelter, his anxiety, like most pups, has become high. He would need to have additional training to address his jumping and his strong pull on a leash. He sits for treats and does take them gently and he appears to be housetrained. He has been dog tested and did well, but we do ask if there is another dog in the home to please ask the shelter for a dog test. Having a secured yard to play in, but come back in to enjoy family time is what sweet Coconut longs for.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Coconut, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
